New Tranny

Hey folks, I have a 96 GLE with 84k miles on it. For some reason my automatic tranny just went , it's been slipping for a while, but never raced, never towed anything. The dealer wants $2800 for a rebuilt - that sounds steep. any ideas? Also, if I'm going to have to rebuild anyway I figure a trans cooler and shift kit might be in order.

Any feedback?

That does sound steap. Check out www.car-part.com. You should be able to find a low mileage one for much less than that. You could always convert to 5spd .

How effective is a tranny cooler? Is a tranny cooler more aimed at boosted applications that would produce more heat? or is the tranny cooler as efficient for N/A's as it is Boosted?

I had my tranny rebuilt 2 months ago for $1500. It was done at a local Cottman Transmission. I have about 5k on it so far and is working great. They offer a 1 year unlimited mile warranty.
