Steering Wheel controls..Crutchfield

I know there are alot of people here who had changed out their stock radio for an aftermarket radio. With the aftermarket radio, do you lose your steering wheel controls? I love the controls but don't want to lose them so I found something on Crutchfield.

Anyone try this?

Thanks!

Andy

Yep, I am installing one pretty soon. Looks pretty straight forward and there is a good write up for installing in a 2002 posted in the FAQ section. You need to be able to solder a few resistors onto some wires, but nothing too difficult. Just don't get a Sony HU, they aren't compatible with most models.

its good stuff and all, but its not all in dash right? the hook up to the steering wheel is and then you have to put the wireless remote somewhere in your car aimed at the headunit... gay.

Do a google search and you'll find it for about $15 cheaper than crutchfield. The only hard part was programming the damn thing to work. I needed another person to help me.

Yeah, that is the problem I am having now. The audio shop which installed my radio said to mount the ir in the A- pillar on the passenger side. But to do that, I will have to extend the power and data wires for the swix as he said not to cut the ir wire.

I thought about doing that. Right now I have the wire sticking out facing the deck in between those two pieces. It barely picks up

I've got seat heaters so that place was out. I mounted it on the stearing column right under the wiper stalk. I had to angle the LED a bit to get it to point at the HU but it seems to be working...for now.
