Bulimic CD player

My factory bose HU cd player has been fine since 1997 when the car was new. All of a sudden, yesterday afternoon, I loaded a cd, but when it was eating the cd, it didnt go in smoothly as it usually does. It hesitated, and kinda "jittered" into the unit, at which point it made a really loud clicking noise. I realized the cd still hadnt went in fully, at which point i pushed it in a little and the unit vomited it back out.

So I tried it again, adn the same thing keeps happening, its not going in and out smoothly and is getting stuck half-way, etc and making a lot of foul noises. Anyone have this problem before...is something inside sticky or require cleaning so that I dont have to go out and get a new HU? I dont plan on getting a revamped system cuz I have no $$ to do so. i wouldnt mind getting a new HU if i needed to, but in my area (buffalo) there are vitually 0 junkyards, esp. something that would carry a max/i30. any advice?

Sorry I don't have an answer to your situation but I'll give you 5-stars for a creative post.

Only thing I could suggest is the cd player has met it's maker.

Your head unit probably needs to be fixed.
Send it here:
http://www.johnson-electronic.com/pages/1/index.htm

It costs $150 but if you want a BOSE CD player that works they are the ones to go to.

thanks for the info...i never even thought of the idea of getting it repaired. anyone on here have any personal experience with johnson-electric? if only it were 50 bucks cheaper, but seems well-worth it, at this point i am highly considering it...only problem is having to take it out.

I can sell you a replacement bose head unit. I have a ton of little parts from when I restored a salvage Infiniti. Radios, AC/heater controls, speedometer clusters, etc.

If you need something let me know paredline@aol.com.

if youre gonna spend a hundred or more bucks you might as well buy a new deck... i got a $250 pioneer cd player off ebay for $105 and it was in flawless condition, brand new (well refurbished, but still awesome)

if i buy a new headunit (non-stock that is), wont i require new speakers also (i thought i read somewhere that the bose connectors are proprietary and therefore all the bose components only fit into each other).

not true, you can get a special adapter that will allow you to let you use the stock bose speakers. or if your good with stereos you wont even need it. somehow my installer got it to work without the adapter, and it sounds great

Take the CD player component out and see if anything obvious is broken. If you think it's just the CD player, and you don't think you can fix it yourself, then you can order just the CD player from this site:
https://www.pacparts.com/

Good luck!

Well, actually...

I've had similar problems myself, usuallly on cold days, or on startup. The problem usually corrected itself, and normal digestion would resume. Though now there seems to be a new digestive disorder, this time in the digestive tract. It can't digest the information, so it just warns me about the inevitable dyslexic swallowing, by grumbling, "Err". I can't seem to get it to eat any of its favorite CD's any more, or anything at all for that matter. So, in the meantime I'm left hungry because it can't hold anything down. I've even tried stimulating its appetite, in the only way I know how...so I bonged out my car with some AK/Herer and still nothing. I'm just going to pull its entire digestive system out and perform surgery, or at least see if I can detect signs of diverticulitis, an ulcer, or something else obvious. Until then, I'm starving.

Oh yeah..it is much more difficult to get a head unit that can push a blanced-line input at one ohm and remain stable without paying a good bit, (be it in time or money) while still maintaing decent sound quality and speaker/amp life. Before you nit-pickers get a woody, I AM NOT saying it is impossible, simply that it is more difficult than one may think to use an aftermarket head unit with the stock speakers/amps. Bottmom line, in order to get the same SQ/ flexibility and life as the stock system you either have to have a lot of time, mooney or know how, though having all three would certaily be ideal. Trust me, I installed high end stereos for a living for a time.
