Chipped up hood came out great...
A few months ago I was on telling about my plan to have my neighbor work out the chips on my black Max's hood. I had planned to fill the chips with touch up and let my neighbor, a body and paint man, work the hood with his air buffer. We did it tonight and the result was beautiful. Although the hood is not and never will be showroom, his word proved to work. I had-over filled all the chips I could and we wet sanded with 1000 grit. He took his buffer and worked magic using a three step process. There were some nay-sayers telling me to just have it repainted, which around here would have cost $400-$500 for a quality job. I remember one guy here saying the hood would never look right doing the buffing process, but I'm glad to say he was dead wrong. My neighbor told me not to waste money on the repaint and that he could do me justice with his work. He was right, the hood came out beautifully, and I'm glad I didn't listen to those saying it would never work. 95% of the chips filled in are now not even noticeable and those I can see are very minor. If you know someone who can handle a buffer and who is in the business, try this before you spend the cash to repaint!

Wish my head had been on straight, Mike. Half way through I realized I should have taken before and after shots. I'll see if I have anything that will show. The improvement was really quite amazing, though.
yea, u have before and after pics? i have so many chips on my hood, i painted it up with touch up paint, in the day it looks good, but at night, the horror of the paint shows, it looks like horrible little dull black spots not matching the rest of the hood

I'll hunt for pix. I know what you mean, Suny, my hood looked like birds crapped all over it with the touch up on.
I remember replying to a thread regarding paint chips on their hood. I was one of the people saying to just do the touch up paint. I did it on my car as well. I did not do as extensive a job as you, but just the touch up alone looks way better than what was on there before. The roads around here are pretty bad with gravel and small debri. I wish they had touch up for my windshield
