who doesn't have a y-pipe?

We have all heard about why everyone who has an aftermarket y-pipe wanted one. My question is who has decided to stay stock and why? And no answers like "No Money"

What other answer can there be? Best bang for the buck as far as power mods go. Only reason I wouldn't get one is if I wasn't into performance or I was over 70 years old. Even then I'd get it just to mess around with those damn street racer kids.

i have the money but i just don't want to invest any to make it faster. plus i live in cali and don't want to deal with the smog ***** (although you can by-pass this by a short warming up period). i'm more into the visual aspect. if i want a faster car i would have started off with a different car(i.e. 1st gen eclipse turbo, hon-duh civic hatch and drop a H22a in it, etc.<flame suit on>), or in my case a motorcycle. all my mods are visual. to each his own. of you're thinking performance though, it should be the first thing on your mind.

Soul Fly doesn't have one. Couldn't get him to bite on a race b4 we split in different directions after a meet.

lol j/k

I spend $100 in gas a week and change oil every month, so the y-pipe wasn't a "make-or-break" decision.

Although it is such a cheap and easy mod. If you don't have a Y, who cares, just don't expect to catch up.

I didnt have one for such a long time. I've researched and read about it for the last 2 summers and everytime i was ready to order, another "fitment problems", "bees-in-a-can noise", "DEI wrap reduces life of pipe", "Didnt pass emissions w/ypipe", and other like threads. I wanted to make sure before i went ahead and got it.

Don't want it, don't need it, don't know the first thing on how to install it. Just a lost cause.

I wish I would have gotten one sooner. I am averaging +2mpg since I installed it (minus the first week - when I was hammering it everywhere).

I usually get 24-26 depending on how I drive and now I have been getting consistent 28s.

r u serious the gas milage went up? the reason im reluctant to get one is that i dont wanna make my car sound like a rice burner and i dont want to lose all the low end torque that everyone is always saying.

Please show me any thread where someone has complained about losing low end power due to a Y-pipe.

I'll wait right here.

You can loose low end power?

I ordered mine from Warpspeed, and should get it tomorrow. I've had my 99 for 2-3 months, and always have been planning on getting the Y, but until now haven't. I'm also doing FSB & RSB, and that may be the end of my mods concerning performance/suspension, however I'm thinking whether or not to lower & get rims.

I thought I was going to sell my car after my Senior year, so putting money into it didn't seem logical but now that I've decieded to keep it (unless I run by a '98-99 5-Spd for a good deal) I'll get a y-pipe, among other things.

I put my y-pipe on recently and had 175,000 miles of driving on my car before it was put on.

My car is ALL original - minus regular replacement parts, i.e. Spark Plugs, Oil Filter, Fuel Filter, etc... The only replacment parts not covered under "regular wear and tear" were the Alternator (under recall) and the EVAP Cannister and Valve.

O2 sensors, knock sensor, everything else is original.

My gas mileage increased by +2mpg (driving normally)
There was a slight growl in the exhaust after installation that is barely audible.
There is a noticable (butt dyno) increase in top end breathability
There is NO ricey sound at all

According to every dyno I have seen (you can check them out on Motorvate) there is no indication of any power loss anywhere in the band. There is a shift in where the "bump" in the band is - but that is about it.

No Money

Actually, its a matter of me rather spending the money on other things. Perhaps one day I'll get around to a Y-pipe, or maybe the Cattman Headers/Y.

great asnwer,if i had to pay full price again, i woulndt bother with it.

i had one, i didnt like the sound on my GLE, im a fan of quiet things if theyre meant to be quiet, i was aching to get rid of it, so i sold it for 160$ after i obught it for 160$, i felt the grittiness in the gas pedal....then i bought my 5speed max, and beacuse its suposed to be sporty, i bought a cattman for $100 used . so i have one, but its not on yet

Again, the y pipe is not a catback. There should be no audible noises coming from it...just all hp gains.

usually when i do mods, i wait for the stock unit to fail, or break...i've got intake because the stock air filter was dirty, i've got an upgraded clutch and flywheel because the clutch was tired...short shifter was tax money, i've got suspension because my rear shocks were blown...i'm just waiting for holes to rust in my exhaust so i can get it...that way in my mind it's ok.

It changes or amplifies the exhaust note to some degree. On a stock 4th gen, the y-pipe makes it sound like a Z34 in my opinion.

There is (barely) noticeable additional noise at startup and idle from outside the car as well.

love the logic, i wish i held off til my stock components died, at least there would be financial justification for modding then

I want to get one. I already have an aftermarket muffler on my car, will that affect it?
