Surging of the engine after I let off the gas after 4k RPMs.. Ideas?

It is really weird, I have been noticing a drop in gas mileage, loss of power, and this odd problem. when i let off the gas slowly after the rmps are at or past 4,000, the car "surges" before i shift. it does not matter if i let off the gas fast, or slow... it still surges.

I did get 5 cel codes a couple of weeks ago, but i had them cleared, and they have not come back yet. so i was thinking that they were do to me having my alarm installed, and also by me unplugging the gauges.

does anyone have any comments about this? what i am thinking, it may be a MASF, but i am not sure. has this happened to any of you before? thanks

I've had this problem before but on my old car. It was the combination of the CAI and the AC being on. When I let off the gas, The rpm ups a little bit than drops normally. I just learned to live with this.

blkmax95c,
Can you possibly find out what codes the ecu threw out? I'm very curious. I am having a similar problem with the surge and 5 codes but mine happens at around 1500rpm after I let off the gas pedal. Do you have a high idle with every accessory off and engine running? I'm idling at 1000 rpm compared to a normal range of 650-700.
The codes that I got from the ECU were all TPS(Thottle Position Sensor) related......P0221, P0223, P0507, P1122, P1124. I've already tried replacing the entire throttle body with a used one and I am still having the same problem.....very fustrating and I am at the point of bringing it into the dealer for diagnosing as a last resort.
If you get this resolved on your car please keep me informed as I am stumped right now. Btw, I also have a 2002 Maxima 6-speed. Anyone who thinks they know what the problem could be, please let us know. Thanks.
