Engine hesitates when accelerating abruptly, whats the problem?

Either from a standstill or crusing speed of 40 , whenever I want to accelerate quickly theres a quick 1 -2 sec pause before the engine starts to rev. This has beocme big problem in traffic situation where I need to quickly change lanes and the car is not responding to sudden acceleration. If i accelerate smoothly then theres no problem

I did all the scheduled maintainance on car, also recently changed plugs. I had this problem for a long time. Anyone has suggestions as to whats going on?

have you had any tsb work done to your auto tranny? it could be a maf issue but if the tranny is slipping then it would hesitate when punched or even partial throttle.

i bet bad coils are causing that. at least for me it did..twillin sells them for a good price. or gerryrome nissan. replace all six...maf could also do it. try cleaning the maf, before changing the coils. unless you already changed the coils and maf. if you did, view the TSB sections, and perform VIAS test...But that is for higher RPM hesitation...

I forgot to mention that usually after hesitation the transmission seems to jerk. It never does this when accelerating smoothly. But if it is transmission slipping how much does it cost to repair?
