6 Speed Transmission in a 99

I searched and found a post saying that it is possible to convert a 5 speeed to a 6 but will your car be faster. Also about how much will it cost to do the conversion? I am about to replace my clutch and I was wondering if this dream is was worth doing. Thanks!

I don't believe there are any 6-speeds that will bolt up to the 3 liter engine. At least one person has swapped in a 3.5 and its 6-speed though.

Yes anything can be done but it is doubtful your car would be any faster, I've heard that the gearing in the max 6spd is actually kindof bad.

I would think that Nissan switching to a 6 speed transmission would be an overall performance improvement. That sucks if the 6 speed gearing isnt better than the 5. Does anyone have runtimes to compare or any thing factual to go against?

The switch to a 6-speed was more of a marketing move than anything.

No matter what the numbers of such a comparison would say, I guarantee that the effort required to get a 6-speed into your car would not be justified by the performance improvement, if any.

i would say there's a great chance the 6 speed can handle boost better than 4th gen tranny since it was already made to handle the power of a low boosted 4th gen (or 240 hp which is power of 2k2 max.)

6 speed

A six speed was an option in the later SE 3.0 vq series, in like 2002. In fact it is the same 6 speed that is in the SE-R spec V. So it should bolt up no problem

I think straightline acceleration would remain equal because the ratios allow quicker accelleration but the extra shift negates the gains. Top speed would be raised as well as gear selection for roadcourses improvement.

actually no.. you are wrong again. Three Stage Pearl is color code QN0. Its 3 stage color which includes Base White, Pearl and Clear Coat. You go to any paint store and give them that color code and you will get the same exact color. Just because someone calls something pearl doesn't mean it is.

before this thread turns into another locked thread because of this bickering. there was no 6speed tranny option on the 3.0 VQ engines. maybe you test drove a 2002.

Well, then you should be able to find a picture or a web page somewhere on the vast world wide web confirming this.

Please, by all means, set us straight.

6-speed is an option on the 3.5, not 3.0
