door locked permanently

In my newest 92 Se had a friend close the passenger door and it wouldn't latch. The little mechanism must have gone into the latched position and needed to be switched back before closing. He locked the door then shut it and it latched--like permanently. The door lock moves up and down but the door will not unlatch. Can't take the inside of the door off to get to the lock because the door needs to be open to get to all the screws. How do I get the door open to fix it??

take off everything you can from the door panel and just leave the two covered screws in. You should be able to pull the panel out enough to get in there a little and maybe see what's going on and open the door. If you need help taking off the panel, check out my window regulator how-to.

I've got the panel off enough to see most of the lock. The linkages to the lock are ok. the lock itself is screwed. I've cut the crap out of myself and the lock is still locked.

ive had something similar to this problem in my car. wat you should do is pull it up and down really fast (the door lock). try to move it around as much as you can. my mom was originally gonna call a mechanic but i did that and it started working again. hope this helps. you'll kno when it feels like it catches. it might not work, maybe might be just luck. happened wen i was 12. lol

Driver's side lock is the same as on the passenger's side.
So ...have a look at a driver's side. Find the link which opens a latch.

Now pull (manually) the same link on the passanger's side - door should open now (and make sure that safety link is up, of course). If not ... it means that the lock itself is jammed. And there is no easy way to open it.

Good luck!

sorry, I haven't looked at the lock mechanism before, but when you turn the key, does that drive the lock up and down or is it actually attched to the latch mechnism. I'm sure you probably checked that though.

No sure if jimmying(sp) a lock affects the latch at all, but you could try that to

good luck

Finally got in. Had to break the plastic latch body on the inside of the door as it was screwed anyway and caused this problem. The mechanisms all were working on the outside. You could see the locking part move, and you could see the door handle trying to release it. Nothing would release inside the latch mechanism. New one-$105.00

did you already buy it?

I can't recall anyone else having this problem. That sounds like a $5 boneyard part to me...

I haven't bought it yet but have ordered it from the dealer. I have looked around my area quite a bit for some salvage maximas with no luck. If someone knows of a quantity of them in the Kansas City area please let me know---I'd like to get lots of things.

There isn't one 3rd gen in a boneyard in all of Kansas City?

I doubt if that is a highly sought after part. I am sure you could save yourself around $100 if you called around.

id get a junkyard one....its not like your buying a moving part to your engine, get a used one...alot cheaper, hell, if your on a budget, go to a junkyard that allows you to Pull-a-part yourself...go get it, put it in your pocket then leave, tell them part you needed was gone, or damaged. or you can probably just pay the junkyard the 10-15 bucks it will cost hehe

hmm you might have to drive like an hour out of your way, im sure you can find a junkyard somewhere near your area, personally, id rather spend 30bucks on a full tank of gas, and drive far for that part and get it alot cheaper, plus you wont have to wait for shipping! youll be shipping it yourself!
