Factory Radio Setup Anyone?

I know a lot of you have replaced the factory units (both head and EQ) on your Gen 2's. Anyone have a broken (or unbroken) one that they would like to sell? Mine is in good condition, but the "loudness" button will not hold in when pushed and the small treble cap button is cracked and broken. I am thinking about removing the head unit and replacing the loudness button. I also need to replace the cracked button. Everything still works on mine including the tape function. I'm not into powerful tunes (this is a second...no wait, third car) for this Max. My Jeeps with the Infinity Gold systems are my rides when I "feel the need" to return to my teenage years....Now, just where in the heck is my Lynyrd Skynyrd CD?.......

I can probably get you one...I already sold the one that came out of my car...but I could get you one from the junk yard if you really need one.

I also have both the radio and EQ. The radio works, but the cassette player doesn't. The EQ works. It's been a long time since I used it cuz I replaced the sound system within a month of owning the car (3 years and some change ago), so "worked" is much more accurate. I'd be happy to sell mine but honestly I'd try a junked car first so you can test it; I won't make any guarentees cuz mine has been sitting in a box for 3 years and I don't remember exactly what worked on it. I'm not about to rip out my Eclipse to test it either. If you're interested maybe we can work something out, but like I said I'd prefer you get a junked one that you can test.

Also, you'll get better sound with even an entry-level aftermarket CD player (some manufacturers still offer cassettes if you're old school) than you ever will with the EQ.

Hey, where would the "cool" lights be on the EQ if I changed them out? And how about losing Maxine, my cool voice babe watching out for my every stupid move (my wife thinks I am having an affair with her)? But seriously, I love the thought of having a more "powerful" setup, but have you ever looked at the buttons on those "microchip" front faces on the new radios? The story goes that getting Apollo 13 home was like threading the eye of a needle through a needle. That is what it is like putting your finger on the right button going 65 MPH in the dark (when I go to work). In my experience, that move is usually followed by "oh, crap, what have I done now?.....Oh, no, I've found a RAP station!!! EJECT!!!!! EJECT!!!!!"

LOL I didn't realized you had Maxine in your car. I agree with you that factory systems looks good in there (ya the EQ looks bad*ss at night), I was just trying to offer advice. However, I must disagree as my Eclipse unit is VERY easy to use, much easier to use than the factory one and actually has LESS buttons.

But keep us updated on what you want to do, and like I said, I'd be happy to arrange something if you're interested in my unit. If you want pics, I'd be happy to oblige.

I just noticed another thing a lot of you may or may not realize....
There were apparently 2 different stereo setups in 1987. My 1987 brochure shows a radio/eq that is more a double DIN with that type of opening in the console. It has rectangular pushbuttons for most of the controls. There is one of these on eBay now. See below.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

MINE is more of a "V" shaped configuration with a quite different opening. It has a center bar horizontally. The radio takes on more of a tapered look from top to bottom. It has treble/fade bass/bal buttons nested inside each other and are round. What gives with this? It makes OEM replacement a bear!

I have an aftermarket deck, and Maxine still talks to me. As long as you still use the factory speaker wiring, you won't lose her.

up until about a year ago I had the stock equalizer which was in the max when I bought her, along with an (I think) aftermarket clarion tape deck. I'm not sure if it's aftermarket or not, and I don't really know how to tell. but I let the equalizer go with the car, cos I had to make it look like I left something. so I guess there's really no point in telling you this, which means there's really no point in me replying to this in the first place.

oh well.

I had the double-DIN, looks like one was for the tape and one was for the eq. I managed to cleverly hook up the CD player in the top and a tape in the bottom. I could use both, but only one at a time. but both worked. it made it kinda convenient when I wanted to listen to an old tape of something. if I tried to use both at the same time, the fuse would blow. I'm also sure it's not good for the output transistors either.

it looked a little luxurious and hi-tech for an 88 car, plus it's better than having an open gap there. if I could have found an adaptor to fit my scanner in the bottom DIN under the CD player, I would have done that instead.

When I got my system put in, they just put a space-saver pocket in that turns the empty DIN slot to a semi-usable space for CD's or speeding tickets. lol j/k

Loudness button

Hey... UKfan4sure! I think that is a common problem for the radio in gen II maxs. Try Grade Lane Auto parts on the Outer Loop... they have several Gen II maxs in their yard. This is my first post here...I also live in Derby City!!! . I would give you mine but it was broken also
