using a 2001 VLSD 5spd on my 95 5spd...

I found a local junkyard that has a 5spd off a 2001 VLSD 20th anniv maxima....it comes with a 90 day warranty...the only problem is, the bellhousing is cracked which is reflected in the cheap price...however, could I just slip the internals of this tranny into my current bellhousing? (I currently have a 95 5spd) same tranny code I believe except for the differential pieces and the axles....which I will also have to buy....

I read somewhere that the shifter ends up being a little further back after switching to a 5th gen tranny....what makes it do this??, where the shift linkage assembly goes into the tranny?....cause if this is the case, wouldn't this mean that the bellhousing from the 95 5spd and a 2001 5spd would be slightly different...therfore my bellhousing wouldn't work? cause the opening for the shift linkage in the bellhousing is in a different location therefore my linkage wouldn't bolt up?

so i guess what my real question is, can I take the internals of the 2001 tranny out of the cracked bellhousing that it comes in and put it in my current bellhousing?

Yes you should be able to swap the internals. Also, you have to replace only one axle. It's in hte FAQ's which side you have to get.

well, I am just going to get new ones from Raxles anyway for both sides....so they are both new and they are so cheap anyway....plus they have a lifetime warranty....so would I just basically buy from raxles the entire axle for a 2001 VLSD maxima, or would I buy the driver side axle...and then a 95 maxima axle for the right side?
