Tune Up!

Im going to be doing a tune up on my car

Spark plugs,wires,oil..etc..

I just want some of the best reccomendations for oil.

Also i read iridium sparks are good and can i get them at the ZONE?

Need a good set of wires not generic and not so costly either.

well, congradulations, I just happen to work at the "ZONE".

We sell iridiums at auto zone. I've had really good experiences with iridium plugs, however if you're gonna try them, prepare to pay dearly. they run about $13-14 EACH. I've also noticed that my gas mileage was a little lower. but I had nice acceleration with them. standard Denso plugs should also give satisfactory results.

right now I'm running NGK V-power plugs (OEM specs for our cars) and I'm more than satisfied. they're good for what I need em for. auto zone doesn't carry NGKs for anything except motorcycles. the only place that I know of off-hand that stocks em is Napa, Fisher Auto Parts and any Nissan dealer. I got them cheaper through the dealer than I did at fisher.

but whatever plugs you decide, STAY AWAY from the Bosch Platinum series. those things are garbage and I have yet to talk to anyone who's happy with em. I put the P2s in my 88 max (and they weren't cheap either) and it ran like s**t. I have heard good things though about the regular Bosch Supers, but haven't tried them.

for oil.... I've never really noticed better performance with any particular brand or type over the other. now that the cold weather is on its way, your best bet is to stick with a 5W-30. the "high mileage" oils like valvoline maxlife and castrol gtx have an ether compound in there to swell the seals and supposedly plug an oil leak. some people swear by synthetic oil, like mobil 1, but that stuff's like $5-$6 a quart and I refuse to pay that for oil. at least for my 10-year-old car. maybe somebody else in the forum can make a recommendation for oil. I'll let them handle that question.

I dunno what to tell ya about wires. we carry bosch wires also, but I haven't tried them. I need a set and could use a recommendation before I run off and buy the wrong thing.

but I strongly recommend the NGKs. you can pay that for the iridiums, but it's just something you'll hafta replace sooner or later.

I second the NGK V-Groove's as well. That's all my Max ever gets, and they have never given me any trouble. As for oil, I just run whatever the oil change place puts in it. 10w30 all year round. Usually it's Shell or Chevron branded oil. As long it is API certified and is brand new oil, and not recycled junk, then in the car it goes. It's only in there for 3 months at a time anyway.

Castrol GTX 10-30 (depending on how cold it gets where you live)

NGK plugs and wires (if you can find them)

Use 5W-30 in the winter, there is no down side. You can even use it in the summer no problem. If you use 10-30 it may be too thick in the cold, but I don't know for sure.
We carry NGK plugs at Pep's (take THAT Auto Zone! ). As for wires, we only have Borg Warners in stock. Since it seems that all things Bosch suck--especially for our cars--I'd go with the NGK's.
As for oil, it all depends on how you drive your car and how deep your pockets are. If you're just using fossil oil, pick whatever label is the prettiest, they're all the same. I tried Valvoline Max life once, dunno if it actually did anything. If you can afford it and race every car without blue and red lights on top go with a synthetic or at least a blend.
My 2 cents.
