First mod: exhaust

I just bought a '95 GXE and found this great forum.

Seeing how my exhaust is rusted pretty bad, that will be the first thing I change. I was tempted to get a full exhaust from the headers back. From these forums it seems that headers don't give any improvement, so I'll start with the y-pipe and back. I just wanted to know if this was a good kit:
Custom Enterprise Dyno Package Special

I'm leaning towards that and the Greddy SP2 cat-back also sold by CE. It looks like a good kit and will save me a lot (CE seems generous with their dyno package savings).

Anyone that can back this system?

I think most people would agree when I say it's a waste. Just get the WS y-pipe for $160. It's the cheapest you can find and generally all y-pipes are the same, so it's not going to be some cheap knock-off.

Here is the link to WarpSpeed for $160: http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/nissan.htm

Just call and tell them you are from Maxima.org and they will (or should, at least) lower the price to $160. For what you were about to pay at CM, you could spend a little bit more at WS and get a full y-pipe back system.

I've got the SP2 and had an additional resonator welded in the b-pipe as it was a little too loud for my taste. Now, it's a quiet but roars at WOT.

its not that the headers dont provide improvements, its just that the headers offer minimal gains when compared to the gains from a ypipe. so basically a ypipe has the same gains as headers just at a fraction of the cost. i would reccomend getting a warpspeed y pipe then going down to your local muffler shop and having them custom make the rest of the exhaust for you. the reasons are- 1. its gonna be alot cheaper this way. 2. the gains are going to be the same because for the most part pipes are pipes. and 3. the sound is up to you. if you dont like how it sounds take it back to them and make them change it untill they get it right. but thats just my opinion.

There was a thread about the custom enterprise y pipe and it sounded promising. Its in the 4th gen subforum somewhere.

i would find it for you but im pretty damn lazy right now. The SP2 also had promising remarks about it.

If you didnt want to spend that buttload of money, warpspeed's ypipe and OBX catback are pretty good too

since i got two maxima's, i ordered last week some stainless steel y-pipe from budget exhaust for 450 shipped US money. i put them on saturday, and it turns out great. man, it's just pulling really hard even at third gear. the deal also came in with two test pipes. and i put them on too. it's great. not really loud at all. but when i go wot, it roars like a beast. cops will be all over my *** now. these local cops know us three bro's who drive maxima's. they love writting us tickets. hehe.

The Custom Enterprise y-pipe is 100% stainless. And with these Missouri winters, stainless is the only way to go.
