If it doesn't have leather it's not a GLE.

It should be pretty solid. If it were a 5spd there is a common problem to look for, but I don't think auto's have any maxima specific common problems. Might not be a bad idea to take it to a trustworthy shop to get checked out.

Yeah not hard...just takes time. You'll stall it once in a while and buck back and forth, but don't worry that's how it is. Some say the max is hard to learn stick on, but I disagree. My first car was harder as are many other stick cars I've driven. 5spd maxes are pretty hard to find, but well worth it. Also with a 95-97 5spd you have to worry about the differential bearing issue. Read the faqs for more info on this.

get a stick, the automatic is pissing me off... gonna probably sell it and get a stick maxima if I can find one at decent mileage and condition. If not gonna get honda civic or accord with a stick Those are good cars too. Automatic sux hard...

I don't care how bad and auto max is it's still better than a stick civic or accord (though the V6 might be better...I've never driven one of them). The handa's are reliable but just really slow. Just my $.02, don't say you weren't warned.

Edit: If you are considering a civic or 4cyl accord you should also consider an altima...they are faster than either of the hondas.

well i get some long delay before going from gear to gear, and it constantly switches from 3rd to 4th gears all the time when u dont really need to, unless u turn off overdrive. last of all manual is fater and more fun, auto is boring

my dad's got accord 4 cylinder and so far its got more juice than my maxima... maybe mine is just getting too old I guess, but I still yet to see a fresh maxima so I can compare it to mine...

in my 1992 accord back when i had it, i had like 150k mileage and never had a single cel come up. the only thing i fixed in that car was the hood hinges (that hold hood up) and brake... mpg was great too ... i sold it for like 1500 cause i didnt want to fix the brake

the tranny goes bad! at a high mileage... I have an automatic 95 gxe with 102kmiles, just rebuilt the tranny! and i think it's a common problem with nissan transmissions... I would look for a manual!

P.S. Hondas are very reliable cars! My family has 2 accords and 1 civic and all holding up great!

The tranny doesn't go bad, but do check that all the shifts are smooth, mine is due for a rebuild, due to the fact that it doesnt shift into 2nd. It's a pain in the ***, but they're really good cars and pretty maintenance free if you treat em right and look out for what you need to look out for in a used car.

You should look at how many owners the car had, and how much time each owner had with the car. If an owner had the car for a month, then sold it, be warned.

Hondas are very reliable, that's not what I was saying. Just really slow. I have a 1995 with over 100k and it is alot more powerful/fun to drive than the many civics/accords auto or stick that I drive which are only a few years old. I work at a used car dealership that sells lots of vehicles just off lease. I notice that the lowend is not really that bad (though still quite noticeable), but past 3k the 4cyl cars really seem to run out of breath. I don't mean to bash honda's. They are very good cars and some of the sportier ones are probably quite fun as well, I am simply trying to point out that even if you feel your auto max is a dog it should still be alot better than a civic or 4cyl accord. You should check for codes. When my KS was dead the car did feel pretty sluggish.

Mine has 184,000 miles on it and the tranny is perfect, good as new, and its an auto (I hate hills with sticks, and since we live around a LOT of hills, I prefer the auto here, but in the cities, I prefer a stiiiick!!!)
