Why Is IT So Hard To Find All 4 O2 Sensors For MY 99 Cali-Spec Maxima?!!?
Why Is IT So Hard To Find All 4 O2 Sensors For MY 99 Cali-Spec Maxima?!!?
My Check engine light came on and I used my OBD II scanner to pull the codes, come to find out that I have 2 bad o2 sensors. I'm burning gas like crazy,(probably getting 6miles to the gallon)so I'm going to replace all 4 with new sensors becuase I'm coming up on 70k miles.I looked almost everywhere online and they only have 3 of the 4 I need.I even went to www.oxygensensors.com and courtseynissan, they both only have 3 of the four. I sure as hell dont want to go to the dealer and get ripped off,but I have to do something about this problem soon. Can someone please help me out, I'm spending a fortune on gas a day.
Thanks
Thanks
Did you check at www.jrnissanparts.com? If they don't have it, they can get it for you in a few days - but will still charge the discounted price.

Only the front two o2's are used to adjust a/f and give you back your gas mileage.
The rear ones only monitor the pre cats. If there not bad, save your money they will not effect performance.

California emission
I have 99 california emission car. IT has four O2 sensors.
Why do you want to replace all ? They are expensive.
I purchased one read bank2 ( I think). It cost me $146.xx including tax.
I was getting code P158/P159 which referes to rear sensor.
After replacement, engine light is gone. (By the way, the Nisaan Service Manual
says this particular sensor do not control engine at all). So my car was
running fine even though check engine light was on.
I am no expert in this but I am pissed off that this part go bad and cost so much money and I do not understand why some of us accept it as normal.
May be I am not as rich as others or I expect better products from manufacturers.

ok here we go:
ON 99-01 Calis:
1st: easily seen in the front header
2nd: after the huge front precat (below header with 1st O2)
3rd: screws into the y-pipe after the 2nd O2
4th: after rear header in y-pipe
there are NO O2 sensors after the y-pipe
Combine all those O2 sensors with the swirl valves in the lower intake manifold and all 99 calis are the slowest maximas
ON all 95-99 Fed cars there's one rear O2 (after cat) and 2 O2 in the y-pipe (one after front header, and one after rear header)
there are 3 sensors in the front and 1 in the rear which ones control a/f ration???
the 3rd sensor died on my cali after warpspeed y-pipe, and now my gas mileage is worse than a Range Rover.
Chino let me know if we can get a GD on it. or somewhere to get replacements on them.
I will check with jerryromenissan and see if we can get anything going with them or at least the 10% LIMaximas.com discount

im having the same problem on my 99 Cali, i replaced my exhaust WS Y-Pipe and a Magnaflow muffler, now my CEL is on and throwing 4 codes...i dont remember what they are off the top of my head (im at work).
i thought i read somewhere that an exhaust leak in the system would throw all the codes, or is it definitely all 4 O2 sensors?
i'd be down for a group deal too, keep me posted.
Thanks guys!

Thanks guys, Replacing the bad ones will cost me less if I don't need all of them. I'm getting codes p158 and p138, anyone know specifically what sensors those are? ChinoX, If All I have to replace is two sensors I'm going to get them from www.oxygensensors.com. To my knowledge, I belive they still have the maxima.org discount for 20% off of the full price. But as soon as someone can help me figure out those codes,I'll get them then after

OK. I went and did some research. Found that the P138 and P158 codes have the part numbers for the o2 sensors to be 226A1-4L715 and 26A0-4L713. I'm not sure if its for the downstream sensors after the cat, but I went to http://www.oxygensensorwholesale.com...99_maxima.html where they have decent sensors, but I'm not sure which two apply to those part numbers. Would any body know if these sensors are compatible?
can anyone explain somethin 4 me. i replace 2 front 02 sensors. my car has rough idle at stop lights but drives fine on highway or movin. gets bad mpg and no cel. dealer said its a wire harness problem or ecu is this true?
A couple a months ago, I had a similar problem with the car idling rough and poor gas milage(Still poor gas milage to this day). I checked for codes and saw that it was the knock sensor. Repalced the Knock Sensor and 2weeks later I had a cyl 5 misfire, Replaced the coil and that still didn't help. Took it to Jeff at Maximum tuning and found the problem to be a broken wire from the ecu to cyl#5. So before you replace parts,it is very possible you might have a fualty wire from the ecu.99's have terrible coil packs and ecu problems
