High point gearing

My Max is shifting funny. It seems like its shifting to the high point of the gear and then, when you let up from the accelerator, it goes to the next gear. However, i am getting a weird smell when I accelerate. I have a code that brings up the knock sensor and the EGR valve. What am I supposed to do guys?

In addition, my maxima is a 95.
Need additional information about the suspension. Do I have struts or shocks? What do I need to replace them? What is good out there?

Read the stickies about engine codes and what to do. . .

BTW.

That's the way an automatic transmission works.

Well...the tranny might be the problem but, the throttle seems to be affecting it too. I tightened the cables and cleaned the throttle body. I may have a hose loose or off. Would that cause this problem?

The tranny-KS code have no relation.

Same goes for the EGR

But if you explain the behavior of the tranny a little better maybe we can help, but it sounds normal the way you described it.

Change your KS and do the EGR maintenance.

Start car...warm it up...
Then drive...accelerating...then the gear hangs for the moment then goes to 2nd...accelerating...hang...3rd...on to 4th...then overdrive...by this time I am at 60-68 mph. I thought it might be pressure. I did not check the breather hose. I bought a new gas cap. Replaced the spark plugs with Boshe Platnium plugs. Cleaned out the pods with some circuit cleaner...cleaned the tips with rubbing alcohol and q-tips. Cleaned...and discovered more power. But, that did not change the problem. I replaced the air filter with a regular one from my K&N filter.

When you warm up your car parked, its not getting the tranny warm, only to a certain degree.

BTW mine does what yours is doing, has for 224k miles. It's started to be a little more slugish lately (hanging longer), but that has to be due to age.

Your car is fine.

I reset the ECU...I will have to let it fault out so that I will have the right code for you. I think it was 0305 and 0307...I might be wrong. However, I have not cleaned the egr valve. Nor replaced the knock sensor. My max is around 238k.

If it gets stuck...possibly by a finger test and left alone...would it cause problems?

Welcome to the home of the Nissan Autotragic transmission. Sounds like it's shifting normal, or a bit on the slow side.

Have your transmission fluid flushed for starters, that might firm things up just a little bit. The tranny in our cars is a smooth shifter, it's designed for comfort, not power, thats why the shifts are soft. You can get your valve body upgraded for firmer shifts.
