Automatic Clutch Slipping?? Tranny?Help
Automatic Clutch Slipping?? Tranny?Help
I need help with this problem.
1998 Automatic SE with 104k miles:
Cruising at 55 on the freeway. I pin the throttle to make a pass, RPM's rev to almost redline and then drop back as the tranny shifts. Real delayed action.
Sometimes when shifting from reverse to drive, car hesitates before dropping into forward gear.
I don't know if this is a tranny or oil issue. What's a tranny cost me?
Can someone help diagnose?

At 55MPH, a peg of the throttle causes the tranny to downshift into 2nd gear, which puts the tach over 5 grand for a brief second, then a shift to 3rd happens and you take off.
If thats what your tranny is doing at 55 MPH, I'd say it's normal.
Have you ever had your transmission fluid flushed?

Not sure if the problem exists in your model but my 92 auto had similar problem....hit gas, gear drops and rpms go up but rpms stay high as next gear never really seamed to grab. problem definitely got worse as time went on to the point that one day i was pulling onto the highway, nailed the gas, and couldn't get over 35 as i never got into next gear...
ended up being solenoid pack problem... bout $500 fix (ouch!)
