97 maxima clock keeps going off then comes back showing 12:00

I'm new here but have to give you guys props, this is a GREAT site!!!

Anyway, my clock would go off but sometimes pressing on the clock cover would make it come back on but the past few months it's just blank.

With the search button disabled, I can't find any info on this.

Can anyone help me out please?

TIA.

I had the same problem and then the clock eventually died. I just got another one off ebay. Go to http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalNisMax2.htm for instructions on how to get the clock out of the car. My clock came with the vents and everything so I just took the old one out and snaped the new one in but if you just get the clock only you only have to remove 2 screws to get the old one out. Its pretty easy to do, only annoying part is getting the vent out

There was a post a few weeks ago about a problem like this, you may try using yahoo or google to search maxima.org. I'm not sure if anyone actually found a solution to the problem, I think the suggestion of getting a new clock came up.

I have a similiar problem to this, my clock sets back to 1:00 (I think its 1). Anyway, its happened a few times but I'm not too worried about it.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I guess buying a used one is the best solution for now.

Funny, mine goes to 1:00 whenever I disconnect the battery, never to 12:00.

Well, I just bought one thru ebay a few minutes ago for $41. I'll test it to make sure it works then cut the dimmer wire. Luckily I don't need to change the color of the clock since it already matches the color of my double din stock stereo.

Damn, I think you spent too much and a new one might not even be the solution. Don't you know anyone else with a 4th gen? Swap your clock into his and see if the same thing happens.

No one I know has one that I can test my clock on or test their clock with mine.
I'm almost sure it's the clock but I'll get back to you when I receive the one I just bought and install it.

A brand new clock at the Nissan dealership would have cost me over $130 and I couldn't find a new one anywhere else on the internet.

You should have your battery checked. My wife's 325e reset the clock to 12:00 a couple of times along with the Check Engine light going on and off for short lengths of time. Found out that her battery was on its last legs (at least 5 yrs old) and we had it replaced.

I definitely want the clock working. It's not the battery since I just replaced it a month ago and the clock still is on the blink.

There are stretches of weeks that it doesn't even come on. Then one day I start the car and it comes on for a few minutes then goes off again.

I hope the clock I bought on ebay lasts me a few years until I sell the car.
I've just gotten so used to the clock on the dash since I bought the car in '97 that I feel lost whenever I look over and the clock isn't working.

well you definatly pay too much for the clock.
see if you can return.
why, I can ship you one clock form a junkyard here from lowell. $10 a clock. + shiping ($1.25 probably) and you save yourself 30 dollars. I could test in my car also before shipping.

Edit: my clock did the same thing. (on/off) and went to a junckyard and bought a new one. (used) (being in my car for the past 1 year, and still working.
