Potenza G009 review

Haven't really posted in a long time, so I thought I would post up my thoughts on my new rubber

Got these as my everyday driving tire. Have had the Potenza G009's for about a month (4k miles) now, overall I am very happy with them. Here are my points on them
1. Very good dry grip, better than my RE950's Kumho 711's, not quite as sticky as my Michelin Pilot SX's (but those are really a different class of tire)

2. The G009's seem to "howl" a bit more at the limits than the RE950's (which is supposidly the tire they are replacing in the lineup) They are WAY more quiet than any of my previous tires (probably has to do with the asymetrical directional pattern) I think the howl will be less noticeable as I wear them down a bit more

3. Wet grip is AMAZING, I feel more connected to the road on wet than I do in my uncle's Quattro A6. Took a trip down to Orange County last weekend in the rain, complete confidience in VERY hard rain on HWY 5 over the "Grapevine".

Overall I would reccomend these tires to anyone that needs an all around good performance tire to drive everyday on. Good cost, good lifespan (yet to be seen) pretty good grip levels for the class/price range of these tires. So far I like them better than the more expensive Potenza RE950's
I will probably be getting some Kuhmo MX's for summertime "spirited" driving for a bit more grip, but for everyday stuff these are more than sufficient.

Hope that helps some of you peeps out there.

After reading your review, how does the sidewall flex compare between the G009's and the RE950's? Which one is stiffer?? Thanks!

really about equal, I really don't feel much more give. though I did race for almost a complete season on the RE950's.
Tell you what, I will take a HARD run up HWY9 this weekend, and will let you know the definitive answer on that.

I loved the RE950s I used to have. I'm seriously considering the new G009s next time around.

I'm considering the G009's right now. Just would like to hear from someone that has owned both the RE950's and G009's. Seems to me that the SE's benefit from a stiffer sidewall in the tire for better handling.

I really don't feel much, if any, more "give" in the G009 sidewalls at the limits than the RE950's had. I think the deeper tread blocks probably have a bit more flex in them than the RE950's, which should dissipate as the tires wear.

Thanks for that review! I had thought about getting the 950's, because I worried that Bridgestone had "cheapined" the tire. Now I'm getting G009's!

Review, ReDux

Well I figured now that I have hit the 8 month /15k mile mark I would give you guys a bit of an update on how these tires are holding up.
I have be extremely happy with these tires as my every day driving tire. The tread has worn very little in 15k of HARD driving miles(I don't drive any other way). I would say I have 85-90% tread left of the more worn 2 of the 4. That is with almost weekly runs up Highway 9 here in the bay area (very curvy 2 lane road over to Santa Cruz for those non-cali peeps)
The tires have held up MUCH better than my RE950's did (they lasted a total of 17k miles) though to be fair I was a bit harder on those.
They are most definately quieter than the 950's. The "howling" in hard cornering issue I mentioned in the initial review has subsided somewhat with the wear I still think this is due mostly from the super deep tread blocks.
The sidewalls are not super stiff, but way better than Kumho 712's on the max.
Again these are not going to be winning anybody track days, but for an everyday "spirited" driving tire I would and have recommed these tires over anything else in the same price range +/- $30.
