How many of you have replaced you cats?

and when you did; at what mileage did you do it at? was your engine running better; and most important; was there a difference in performance?

I did it when I replaced my y-pipe. I lost low-end and gained top end (not much at all though). I have since switched back to a stock cat. I don't think it is really worth it unless your stock cat is fouled. Maybe do it as one of your last mods.

Not sure if this is what you were inferring to, but a new Y-pipe doesn't replace the cat. He had probably installed a high flow cat in place of the original cat when he replaced the Y-pipe since 1/2 the bolts were already off but went back to the original when he lost some low-end.

So any idea on how long an original cat should last?

Prolly should change cat with that, i went with a kinda cheap hi flow cat that was like 70 bucks, works great, thats matched with WS Y pipe and custom dual exhaust and no res, kinda loud when not behaving on the throttle. lol straight pipe gonna be even louder. wouldnt recommend that, i have friends with no cats and gotten tickets for it, (cops actually lookin under cars for cats!!)

I have a y-pipe with the stock exhaust (including the cat). I also have a test pipe and a high flow cat sitting in the garage next to my GReddy exhaust. As soon as I get my short shifter, I am probably installing the test pipe. If it seems too loud, I will try the high flow cat. I will try to post any noticeable difference, but I think without a dyno, the only difference will be in the sound.

The difference between stock cat/test pipe/high flow cat is not going to be enough to notice on the "butt dyno" but I think on a regular dyno or on the track it will increase the numbers, especially on the top end.

I talked to a guy at a muffler shop about cats and he told me that Nissan cats are really good and usually last a very long time. He said he rarely sees them clogged up. If it is, it's usually someone who had a head gasket go or something where a lot of crap didn't burn and went through the exhaust.

I have a Y-pipe and a high flow cat, stock b-pipe and performance muffler. Had a test pipe on but it is way too loud. I too notice that my low end is gone, and I want it back for i miss it. I also want my exhaust quieter, but dont want a stock one. Who knows of a good muffler that isnt too restrictive nor is it too loud(want about 10% louder than stock). Seems impossible to find that happy medium.

Yea i think the only thing that really u can tell a difference from is the Y pipe. I did the y-pipe first with stock exhuast and felt a pretty good difference, specially on the high way with intake as well. After the high flo cat and the duals not much change that i could notice on the "butt dyno" lol.

Mine lasted about 200 k. It was really bad, replaced with a high flow cat not much difference in performance or gas mileage. Maybe a little louder. The rest of the exhaust is stock.

Heh.. the kid actually came by my house and asked if he could dig through my trash for aluminum cans!
ummm, we live in a neighborhood with $300k+ houses, and he's digging through the trash because???????

The Chick Fil-A bags were to annoy another friend. he LOVES C-F-A and moved to where they dont' have any. a new one opened up about 5 min from the house, so I send him reminders of how bad his life sucks.

yeah cats are annoying and stupid animals. in my opinion they are the racoon of domestic animals. i am not a violent person but something about coons and cats makes me want to shoot them in the a$$ with a pellet gun.
