Leakdown Test w/ broken timing belt
Leakdown Test w/ broken timing belt
Hey guys, if you remember, the max's timing belt snapped cruising down the road 45 mph, overdrive, bam - engine dead :/
Well, before I give up on her, I think I am going to try and do a leakdown test to check out the heads. I was thinking I could remove the valve covers, and loosen up the bolts holding the cam shafts into place. Then lift up on them to close all the valves. Then do a leak down on each cylinder. (Do I still need to get each one at TDC first?)
I have an air compressor, and I am gonna find a leakdown gauge at autozone or somewhere, but have never done one before, just compression tests. Can you give me any advice? How much pressure to put in the cylinders, what is acceptable leak, etc? If the valves are bad, she's going bye bye, but if it doesnt look too bad, maby I can throw a belt back on her, put it back in time, and see what happens.
Thanks for the advice.
