changing VG Thermostat

I have changed the thermostat before on my 90 gxe, and I'm thinking about doing it on my 89 se. The thing that I dont think I did EXACTLY right last time, was making the little bubble pin thingy on the thermostat face up.. It's suppose to face directly up right, like at the zenith...

the thing was that last time, it was kinda hard getting it to keep pointing up, when I would turn it so that that part is facing up, it would kinda rotate, while I was putting the housing back on the block..Is there any way to keep it from moving? should I put a little bit of gasket sealer between the thermostat and housing, to keep it from rotating while I am attaching it to the block???? what do YOU guys do????

I wish our t-stats where like the VQ ones. On my dads car (95 gxe), the thermostat is already connected to the housing,(and its the same price as ours), so you just take off the old t-stat w/housing, and put on the new one...u dont have to worry about pointing that pin up..its easier than an oil change..

thanx guys

Use any thing sticky in small amounts. Probably gasket sealer is best, but I was taught to use a tiny dab (just enough to hold) of wheel bearing grease many, many years ago when gasket sealer was still in its infancy. A tiny dab couldn't be seen in the water.
