8.5 is pushing it, it all depends on the offset and rim style.

as stated it completely depends on offset and style of the wheel

Please explain how "huge spacers" will allow him to run 8.5" wide wheels.

Better Handling!! Seriously though, he's right. 17x8 with 35mm offset (is that right Jeff?) will hold a 235/45-17 tire. That's plenty for a Max.

In 1998, the Cobra wheels were 17x8. But in the newer years, they started staggering them to 17x8.5" and started upping the diameter to 18".

I run 8" wide wheels with a 30 offset, no rubbing. 8.5" would fit for sure in the front, not sure about the back (depending on offset).

The only way to know for sure it to try and fit them on.

Pioneering is fun!

-i thought i knew what i was talking about, guess not...
-only thinking about the rear, so they won't rub on the rear strut housing.. like mine did, if thats not because of the wider wheel, or different offset then why would they rub?

Wide wheel + huge spacer = what does that do for the fender clearance? Think about it.

think about unsprung weight. wheels of that size are more than likely heavy even if they did not rub.
