My thoughts on getting a CAI gone down the tubes?

Well, now that I think I know where the hole for the CAI is to go, I realized something that may have an adverse affect on it. I can deal with not driving around in 3 feet of rain, that's just silly. However, I'm an avid snowboarder and I'll be driving up to the local resort to board many times this year. I can drive my other car on occasion, but that's not going to be available all the time. Will driving through snow goof the intake up and end up killing my engine?

Normally there isn't a huge amount of snow, but with two or three hours of driving daily through an inch or two, it really can get tossed up into wierd places in the wheel well. Ideas?

If I can't get a CAI because of this reason, what's the next best alternative?

The bottom of my CAI (Car at stock height) is 13 inches of the ground, and from the bottom of the bumper to the base of the filter is 5 inches. I don't know anything about snow since I live in Florida, but common sense says the bumper should deflect the snow and the intake should be fine. I guess you should probably consult someone with a CAI who lives up north. Tried to help.

CAI comes w/ a maf adaptor on the maf->

so if your really worried, I think you can take out the cai tubing and attach the filter directly to the maf adaptor. This will make your system a regular cone intake type. If it's cold enough outside for snow, then you should be fine powerwise anyway.

The filter is completely protected and covered up in the wheel well. Unless you remove the plastic lining underneth, very small amount of snow will ever get in where teh filter sits.

#1) I give it to you for manually digging up a thread from the year 2000 w/o search.

#2) Sorry that you took the trouble but I just suggested the exact same thing in my above post. 5 years ago.

I would be more convinced to do it in that situation. That just means the CAI is doing its job ... getting REALLY cold air from the freezing temps. Your engine would thank you. Even if you got buried in snow, as long as you didn't rev you would be fine because ice is not liquid and doesn't travel up like that. It would just get all up on your filter and you would probably be able to tell because you would be rich as a ***** or stall due to no air coming into the engine .......... or so I would think.

Saw it. Still don't agree with it. I won't until you stop passing opinion and hearsay as fact about stock being best. As long as you can't explain to me in technical terms why the PR CAI w/stock resonator can't be better than stock it's to me.

He clearly knows what INJEN is. Are you kidding?? He was making fun of the fact that it was misspelled. The other guy spelled it "ingen" when it's "injen".

The lack of tons of time being put in to "technical" research automatically shoots down what's been EXPERIENCED and PROVEN by many, many members? You, my friend, are extremely ignorant.

Many, many members? How many members do you know have tested the PR CAI with the stock resonator? Mostly everybody that has had experience with an aftermarket intake has removed the stock resonator. You still can't tell me why the PR CAI with stock resonator absolutely cannot be better than stock, can you? Guess not. How does that make me ignorant? Dave B which is a respected member around here said that was the best intake combo he ever tried, including stock. And he was a pretty particular guy...

Once and for all.....i'm talking about the PR CAI with stock resonator. Not all those other intake combinations. You can't answer the question and that makes me ignorant??? I seriously hope you're not on the debate team at your high school....

+1 I run my own custom cai (behind the headlight) and the stock resonator.

My personal apologies. I missed the stock resonator part. Although I'm skeptical of any CAI setup, I do admit I missed the part about the stock resonator, and that changes everything. Again, sorry for the confusion
