Remote stater on Manual Transmission Pro-Install

I live in New Jersey and apparently it is illegal to install a remote starter on a manual transmission here. I heard to do it yourself is a major project so i want to avoid it. Does anyone know which states or maybe even places will install a remote starter on a manual trans? Anyone know of any major draw backs besides the possiblity of the car hopping if it is left in gear? thanks

I had always heard that you can't have a remote starter on an MT car. But if you find one let me know. I've always wanted one.

I installed remote starters, it isn't impossible on a manual, you just have to get in the habbit of leaving the car out of gear when you park. You do need to leave a coded Valet key in your car forever, and need to bypass the Clutch Position sensor.

They are making them, from what i've heard, specifically designed for a MT by utilizing the gear position sensor, but you don't NEED a special unit to remote start your MT car

I have it Done on my 6 speed. If my car is in gear, it wont start. It's called the "Nutral Tranny Switch Wire"

Green/White wire under the hood on the engine harness I believe.

remote start

I've had the Clifford alarm w/ remote start on my 6spd since the day I bought it. The way it works is that you have to set it before you shut down the car and when you step out and arm it... it will shut down.

It's not much harder on a manual, just dangerous to do so because the car can still move if you start it in gear.

A long time ago my buddies were at a on a boat at a lake all drunk. One of them accidentally started his car (manual w/ autostart) and watched helplessly as his car rolled at 2mph into a tree. Didn't really damage the car too badly, it was just paint damage. But funny as hell.

Is installation complicated or pretty straight forward? How long did your first install take?

That would depend on how skilled you are at doing such stuff. My first remote start? A few hours but that was about 7+ years ago. First Maxima? about 2-3hours, but that was also several yrs and about 100+ Maximas ago....

i'm pretty techy, and have installed many remote starts even on manuals, but my ? is, what do you do with the green/white wire for the max? i'm putting in the 561t for the remote start from factory keyless, and the 556u (i believe) for the immobilizer. do i just have to cut or splice something into this green/white wire? thanks, i haven't done an it this way before.

Yes I can install it, which unit were you interested in? Yes it can work with your current aftermarket alarm depending on which it is, but it is typically more work and usually not worth it, just from my experience.

it is an automate am1...it basically intergrates into the factory alarm and i am using the original factory remote. I am looking for just the basic remote starter...it is fine if it has a seperate remote or even if i have to disarm the alarm (with the original remote) before i try to remote start.
