Prime oil pump during oil change?
Prime oil pump during oil change?
I am sorry if this has been covered, but I could not find it if it was.
2k GXE:
I change the oil in my car on my own (I wont let anybody else touch her). Anyway, after draining the oil I understand the oil pump, and the oil filter are not primed, so for a second or two after I turn my car on right after I put the new oil in, my engine sounds different. I know its the sound of an engine running without well oiled parts and I know this is heavy wear on the engine. I can hear her screaming in pain during those seconds that seem to last 15 minutes. I understand that this is normal practice during oilchange, but I can't take it anymore and was wondering if there was anything I can do.
On my 69 mustang I can take the distributor off and use a drill to prime the oilpump to create some oil pressure, but I know I cannot do this with my maxima. Is there anything I can do? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

You could pull the fuse for the fuel pump and let the engine die out before changing the oil, then just crank it over using the starter till the oil light goes out. Put the fuse back in and fire her up. I used to pull the coil power wire off on my SE-R when I was doing oil changes on her, I was always affraid of ruining my turbo with no oil going through it for a second. Primed it for like 10-15 seconds with the starter and fire it up. You could unplug a crank sensor to get the engine to not fire up- but it will throw a code. Pulling the fuse out while its runing for the fuel pump, then trying a few times to start it back up- to get rid of any extra residual fuel in the fuel rail or lines. This won't set a check engine light
