Got my stock max to 141MPH
I was out last night in my max with my buds and i decided to see what it could do. We started down this big hill on 78 and i floored it from 80 through 4th and into 5th and in less than 3/4 mile i was at 141. i let off them cause i started to run out of pavement. Anyone out there gotten their max faster? I am looking forward to seeing what my stillen y-pipe and intake will do.

be careful when driving that fast. i haven't been past 95 mph yet, mainly cause i'm on a congested highway or something, but i really dont care about my max's top speed. i've heard that the limiter on the se (and i think the gle) is 145mph, so the car wont go more than that, even with the y-pipe. the y-pipe will help boost your highway speeds though, i think. anyways, have fun with the car, and dont kill yourself
p.s. if any1 can clear up anything that i have said, please do so, i dont know jack, this is just from info i've gathered from other posts.

I don't know if it is limited....it may just be drag limited. The GXE is limited to 130 because of the stock H-rated tires. Others have said that the other models are limited, while some have said that it is not. I don't know if there is a definitive answer based on what we have seen here.
The SE manual will do 141, I know. I am pretty sure it's drag limited, the RPM was at 6100, 300-400 RPM short of bouncing off the rev limiter.
It's generally accepted that the GXEs are limited to 112 MPH, the max of H rated tires. Maybe the manual GXEs have a different limit.

I don't know about sticks but my auto wouldn't go past 150. The needle was pointing between the 145 & 150 mark and it was taking too long to accelerate any faster after it got to 145. I just gave up and decided to slow down....

A good trick would be to get the upgrade for the V tires on a limited car (if you can convince the service dept).

I just wanted to let you guys know that in California, if you are caught going over 110 MPH you are considered suicidal. Your car will be taken away and sold at a police auction. Then you will be placed in a medical facility I believe for 60 days. The captain of the Carlsbad police told me this. Either way I won't drive over 110 on a public street.

I had a *quick* run up to FAST the other day. I just wanted to enjoy a brief burst at 100+, but the car pulled so hard, I ran up to an estimated 145-mph in a heart beat. My Maxima was still pulling, but an acute attack of *police paranoia* slowed me down to SANE again. My new Cattman Y-pipe makes a huge difference at high rpms. What a rush!
I still don't know where the top-end is on this car...

If you read the fuel cut TSB you will see that there are basically two levels of ECU program, one for cars sold with H rated tires and one for cars sold with V rated (150 mph) tires. If the car came from the factory with H rated tires you can expect a limiter at about 130 mph. This is industry wide - not just Nissan.

Are you saying that the car's speed is based on its tires? Well, are you saying that the Audi A4 with sports package could go upto 170mph? It comes with WR tires!!!

Busted!
umm...thats not quite what he's saying...a governor is partially based on tire ratings...if you have tires that are h rated and you can only go 130 (i don't know the exact number for any ratings of tires) then the car company is going to limit all of the cars with that type of tire to that speed maximum...however, if nissan put a Z rated tire stock on the maxima, there would be no governor because they know that the top speed of the car is less than the tires can take
just because the tires can take it doesn't mean the car can...the a4 is not very quick (the stick shift 1.8T and the stick shift 2.8 are both slower than a stock auto max)...even with the sports package which you say comes w/ WR rated tires means that it most likely isn't governed which means that specific car can probably do somewhere between 125-140

common, you guys are making me more anscious than wat i already am....i'm in the process of breaking my car in and only got it up to 98 max.....i can't wait till my baby is ready to run. i didn't want to kill the engine too fast and so i have to wait....all these post about it goin to 140-150 is killing me and i can't bare to not be able to try it out.

While at the dealership, on the showroom floor, I noticed a 2001 AE max with the hood opened. They had a plastic thing over the motor hyping the 3.0. It stated 0 - 60 in 6.6 and top speed of 143, plus numerous other things......Funny it was identical to the 2000 model a year ago

Anyway, nothing happened, other than my insurance doubling and a $300 ticket!!!

my01se you got soooooooooooooo incredibly lucky...don't complain about your insurance doubling...i'd be happy about that if i were you...whenever you are going over 100 ANYWHERE (since there are no more public places in the world w/o a speed limit...autobahn now has one and montana now has one)...so when you get pulled over doing 100 or more they are supposed to arrest you and impound your car (like what they do for street racing)...you might even serve jail time because it is a criminal offense...consider yourself lucky
and for the advertisement...people on this board have run their cars upto 155 (thats the highest i've heard) so the 143 wasn't accurate...6.6 secs sounds right for a pretty good driver...i know that an excellent driver w/ a perfect launch can probably run a 6.3 or so 0-60 but 6.6 sounds accurate...but i think the ae is supposed to be point a couple secs slower because they weigh more and the "5hp" doesn't even add upto 1hp to the wheels

hit 145 on my way to Las Vegas with Skimax in my car. all that talk about speed limiter thing is kinda skeptical to me...
just because the car came with a Z-rated tires, that doesn't mean the car has no limiter..(i.e. BMW and Mercedes..both electronically governed around 150mph..give or take 10mph..)
i've also heard that 5-speed and auto cars have different ECU set-up or something...someone also told me that NISSAN sometimes messes up(?) and puts no limiter on cars that should have come with one..
4th gen GXE gets cut off around 115mph...ask Cheston..
