Decisions: what turbo

Im looking at a couple different turbos...
I want to run 6psi as a daily driver and be able to bump it up to 10 psi when it race day. I want it to spool up at a lower RPM and reach full boost by at least 3000 RPMS.

I was looking at the:

- Garrett T25BB
-Turbonectics t04e with a .81 A/R
-Or would some t3/t4 hybrid be the best shot.

Also, what is the best A/R I would need for my situation.

T25bb - Where are you thinking of getting the T25 ball bearing. I didn't even know the made ball bearing T25s, or do you mean a GT25...

T04e with a .81 A/R - Do you mean a .81 A/R on the turbine or compressor? If you mean on the turbine it won't even be thinking of making full boost by 3000rpm, though the term "full boost" is a relative term because to spool to a higher boost level takes more time, i.e. a full 6psi setting will come around quicker than a full 10psi setting will. Also boost onset will be different in different gears. You may never reach full boost ever in first gear, it may take a while (RPM wise, not time wise) in 2nd gear, and in 3rd gear it will come on earlier, etc. If you mean .81 A/R on the compressor that doesn't tell us much. It sounds like you have a particular turbo in mind in this case but you don't know whether you should get it or not. We need more info on this one.

T3/t4 - There about 5 million different t3/t4 combinations in the world, some could work, some wouldnt.

I suggest you play around with this for a little while to start narrowing things down.

Yea, I did some research and found that Garrett produced a ball bearing T25... im waiting for them to give me the A/R of the turbine and compressor. And yea that .81 A/R was the turbine. I was leaning toward the Garrett t25bb, but I just want to make sure I get something that is going to work. Im going to to turbocharging this as a project at Wyotech this spring, and I want to start getting my parts now.

Where I got these turbos in my head was at this site and their
Turbo kits

Ill check out that link

thanks a lot man,
Jeff

I used the Grand National Style TA49 series turbo with a .63 Exhaust housing. The 3.8's that are in the GN's are similar to our setups and work very well together. Might want to research that route. www.limitengineering.com sells them. I'm at full boost by 2500-3000. I've got the wastegate actuator as loose as I can and still make 7psi. I took it out with a turn more and was at 10psi.. gota wait till my 370's are inplace before making more boost at this point.

Well I can tell you right now, even the largest t25 available is going to be far to small to use on a maxima. That anyone would make a kit for a maxima using one is absolutely retarded. So I can safely say no, don't get a T25... t25s are really small on 2.0L SR20DETs, let alone a 3.0L, unless you don't care to rev it past like 4500rpm.

A .81 A/R turbine on a T04E is too large to spool when you want it to, though it wouldn't be a bad turbo for high RPM performance assuming it's coupled with a suitably sized compressor and wheel.

BTW I do have a turbo kit for sale in the 4th gen forum it's got a .70 A/R turbine on a t04e, and you get most everything else you need too. Just a few extra parts to get.

I was looking at that nealoc, but at Wyotech when we build our turbo cars they do not allow kits. We have to bend all of our own piping and everything. Any ever try or put a Garrett GT turbo on their car?

also, anyone have a site where i can learn to read a turbo map better.

If you've got the money, a Garrett GT is the best way to go. Ball bearing center section makes for quicker spooling. It's just plain newer technology than the venerable T series turbos.

There are two articles on this page that I read and gave me the best info on reading compressor maps.
