WSP Y-Pipe, 2.5" B-Pipe w/o Resonator w/ stock muffler, NOT the sound I wanted HELP!!
Ok, here is the deal. When i got my warpspeed ypipe on my 00 max, there was hardly any sound difference, just a little deeper and heard it the most from the startup. I'm not much of a fan of the aftermarket mufflers out for our max's and didn't want to spend the money anyway. so i figured a custom b-pipe would increase the exhaust note. and believe me it did, i wish i could give you some sound clips..Anyway i feel like a ricer, it really isn't as bad as other setups i've heard, but it's not clean. I need some advice, is there anyway i can keep the 2.5" piping and get a resonator made for that sized piping for my max? so it's still more freeflow than stock but with a resonator will tone it down some. any help would really be appreciated.

i have WSP Y-pipe, 2.5' inch piping with smal tube like resonator and Magnaflow exhaust. I'm also not happy with the sound and i'm getting a Magnaflow 22" resonator. they make one for 2.5' piping.

now what was our stock resonator...22"? if so, do you think the magnaflow will make it almost stock again, or will the 2.5" piping before and after the resonator still give some sound? Will that magnaflow now help control that sound that we both can't stand? unlike you i still have my stock exhaust, my original plan was to get a custom bpipe for more sound, think i'd still get enough sound from a 2.5" pipe leading to magnaflows 22" resonator?
Other than with a Magnaflow resonator... Cattman and FrankenCar have well resonated B-pipes... I'm not sure if that info is useful to you... whether ya wanna go down the road of getting a new B-pipe.... all the people here with Cattman or FC cat-backs in tandem with headers or y-pipes say that it sounds great... I've heard some of the clips and I believe that they're right, so it must have something to do with the resonators and mufflers on those set-ups....

So are y'all saying that its too loud or the exhaust tone is off and it sounds like fart? Those are two different issues... I'm just trying to get a better picture of what's happening...
Btw, I have a y-pipe waiting to be installed and I'm deciding I'm gonna go loud with that and my GReddy...
... at least until the local PD gives my @ss a ticket....

Hey... go through some of these sound clips and let us know what your set-up sounds like... http://www.waveperformance.com/mufflerclips/muffler.htm
I'm thinking those set-ups might help ya solve your problem too....

How about compared to this? (Right click and Save As)

This is Cubanato's with headers and FC cat-back...

I think that's the best its gonna sound... if that doesn't please ya, then I'm not really sure what you're looking for...
Btw, I'll post sound clips of my Cattman y-pipe/GReddy Evo cat-back when I get round to installing the y-pipe...

Dunno what exact size resonator my 2.5" B-pipe is, BUT it is a SS Magnaflo res and it knocks against the heat shield underneath the car while its cold, or raining- very annoying
In case some of you that want to get a huge res, space/clearance may be a concern

... until we hear some clips... I'm afraid I'm not sure what to tell ya...

dex, you are on the right track. If you do not wanna sound like a ricer, resonator is a must. If you want to change exhaust note, it's all about the muffler you go with. I wanted quiet after all that noise so I opted for quiet 2K2 muffler. Wanted to go with Magnaflow initially though..

I have the budget b pipe and it came with a magnaflow resonator and if I'm not mistaken it's 18". I still have the stock muffler and it isn't low at all. Just a little growl that can really only be noticed at idle.

I forgot to mension earlier, for some reason the exhaust sounds the worst when i just start the car, once it warms up it isn't as bad..i don't know why, but for some reason it almost sounds if i hear a leak...hopefully i'll get it on a lift on monday and have my mechanic take a look at it.
Well, it looks like i had a nice leak where the guy welded the new pipe to my stock muffler, i got that fixed and it sounds much better. I still heard somethin weird at one point, like a little rattle, gonna try and figure out if that's heat sheild or what, but when i dropped off a friend of mine i took off as i left and he gave me a call to let me know how it sounded and said it sounded great, no raspy sound or anything just some more exhaust note. I did notice at first once i got the leak fixed that reving at a stop, sounded like a little rattle once i hit high rpms close to redline. Soon enough i'll be able to take a closer look at it, but much better now that the leak is fixed.
I'm runnin a custom 2.5" B-Pipe with a 18" Maganaflow resonator, Custom Maxima SS Y-Pipe into a stock 00 Muffler. Oh yeah, I previously had a Magnflow Muffler...way to loud. The set-up I have now is super quiet until I get up on it! Then it growls. After hearing the frankencar with header clip...that appears to be a happy medium. I think my current set-up provides a nice sleeper quality. Good luck. This is a solution I've been toying with for a while...but am quite happy currently.
