03 Max vs 04 Mazda S

I am considering trading the Max in for the 04 Mazda 6S. I realize the Max is a better car overall, but I will be getting a brand new car for about $10 less per month. The Max has the following options over the Mazda: Xenon headlights, leather, heated seats, heated steering wheel, heated side mirrors, side air bags, and 6 disc changer. The only option the Mazda has over the Max is compass in rear view mirror, and sporttronic auto tranny. I feel my Max has several problems that the dealer will do nothing for. For example, I think my tranny is going bad at 41k, the engine does not run smooth anymore, and I need new brakes. I also have a dent in the Max that I would need to fix. The deal is already done. I can get 4k cash back with 0% interest on an 04. I realize everyone here will tell me to keep the Max,but I have decided to get another new vehicle and the S is the best bang for the buck that I have found. I would like to hear your opinions on the S. I know this is a Maxima forum, but I do value your opinions as car enthusiasts.
I am still in college and commute to school everyday and I like the fact that the new car will be covered under warranty untill I graduate. I feel there are pluses and minuses to each car and they are very different, but I want some reassurance that I should get the Mazda with 4 year 50k bumper to bumper. I know very little about the realibility of Mazdas and would appreciate your feedback on this issue.

Am I going N or NE? OOH, LET ME TRADE MY CAR FOR THAT!!!

and sporttronic auto tranny.

Go to a different dealer. If it's under warranty, hound them until they fix it. You're doing what they want you to do and that's 'go away'.
the engine does not run smooth anymore,
get a tune-up
and I need new brakes. I also have a dent in the Max that I would need to fix.
fix them

If the deal is done why are you asking? You want to make the trade, do it and stop worrying about getting a big group hug from it.

Here's the post you should have put in the 'other car' forum.

Hi. I just bought a mazda so i'm not sure why i'm asking now, but how are they for reliability? Thanks

I'm sure for the next 3 years just about *any* new car won't have problems. Trade it and join a mazda forum. Nice knowing you.

Judging from Mazda 6 forums, they have very little problems in terms of reliability even though its a new model design. If your not happy with your Max, its good that you did something about it instead of complaining like others do. I don't think you could go wrong with a 6s.

I got an extended warranty on my max since I bought it used, so 5 years, not to worry too much.

I like the 6, but for some reason comes across to me as a girls car, such as the IS300.

I wouldn't buy one. You still should have the 60k/5 yr powertrain warranty, so just beat on the tranny and it will go bad, then they will have to fix it.

Brakes are not covered under the powertrain warranty and are a part of normal maintenance so you shouldn't be complaining about dealer not doing anything about those.

The new 6s are too young to really compare for reliabilty. They are decent quick, although as per what I stated above and that they were too young to bash on, but they have 220hp crank supposedly, but unless they're custom turboe'd, the have yet to really break the 200 fwhp barrier. I think the only one that I heard was a turboed 6i 2.3L at 203 fwhp, not even the 6 cyl. Again, aftermarket support will grow. And I'm not sure but it took us the 4th gen on here a while before we hit 200 fwhp N/A, but then again we didn't start with 220 stock.

There's my post.

going from an 03 max to 04 6s doesn't make sense for the reasons you stated.

you still have warranty left on the max, it's a better car overall, will retain value down the stretch better than the 6, will probably be just as reliable or more reliable, your payments are only $10 diff, and you're trading it in for an AUTO 6s ? ....put down the pipe and flush the crack.

the only thing the 6s has over the max is handling. this seems to be a bad deal done for the wrong reasons...unless you're getting a lot of money back from the dealer and a lifetime supply of gas and tires.

hope that makes you feel better about your downgrade.

...oh yeah...get the extended warranty on the 6s. their auto trannies are just as fragile (or more fragile) as the max.

Valid reasons...I have extended warranty on my Max..but it is impossible to get the dealer to do anything under warranty and it's not worth my time to bicker and drive to 10 different dealers to get something done. Now it seems that the extended warranty was quite pointless....I love my Max but can not justify spending an extra 500-1000/yr extra (apart from normal maintenance) on a 3 year car for things that should be covered under warranty...My extended warranty on my old Honda did infact cover every small thing.
it's his car...he can do whatever pleases him...
Good luck with the new car Maxnut

It's worthless because you aren't willing to enforce it. The dealer's first answer is always "no" or "that's not covered" it's up to you to make them do it and make them cover it.

Don't bash nissan or your aftermarket warranty because you're a pushover.

like everyone has been saying you will be taking a step backwards. the car will rattle more, far less power, the gas is a push, and the quallity is just not there. plus they are a real pain in the rear to start in the winter...trust me most have to be jumped everytime we do snow removal way up here in NH. and take it from me i sell mazda's and vw's..dont get me wrong the car is a good car and you will probably never have anyhing go wrong with it but when it comes to trade in time you will not be happy with the decision you made.but hey its your car and you should do what you want to do.
