4th Gen Trunk Camera Installed

Thanks to Don with the install. I bought the ebay trunk camera for 52 dollars shipped (Eff yo' group deal!) and the install went smoothly. The camera sit flush into the keyhole and instead of dremmeling like advised by maximapolak, Don used a drill bit to make the keyhole slightly larger to fit snug. Wiring was to a 12V source and run to my tv.

The camera at night is still visible unless there's a car shining their headlights close behiind you. Otherwise, you can still see it at night. Pics aren't the greatest, but this should have come standard with the maxima!

Again, I gotta thank Don for the great work and MaximaPolak for the info to help me with the install.

SHOULD I SHAVE MY TRUNK???

Here are some pics:

i dont see any benefit of having that camara there except for security reasons. i wouldnt be able to see it anyways if i was driving behind u. and eventhough it might help with parking in tight spaces, ur bumper will be hit by others no matter what (at least here in the city).

he didnt use the GD, he got it off ebay, ure best bet is to buy it off ebay or something the GD is taking too long, i got out of the GD....

and amulla01, for $52, why not???

ure being a little negative there, i honestly dont see the point in having tvs in my car, flip flopping my trunk, getting a stillen kit, i just dont see a point to these either, why does my HU even have dvd? theres just no point at all....(feel the sarcastic)

NICE LITTLE $52 MOD, im sure u can come up with reasons to use a back up cam amulla01....

Slick idea, and nice. I think I might be doing this mod since someone popped my keyhole out trying to break into my trunk. Was going to get it completly shaved costing$200 but I mgiht very well consider this instead

sorry to sound negative i m more of a performance modding rather than visual modding, so u wont ever see any low springs, body kits, dvds, playstations, tv's in my car... nontheless i came to this post because i was curious of the title. i gotta give it to ya though for the idea. woundt think of it myself to fit a camara into keyhole.

I've had the camera for the day and it acts like a live rear view mirror. I have remote trunk pop, so i never used the lock anyways. I actually have use for my tv now and just think its a cool feature. i definitely dont need it for security reasons.

i dont see the benefits of a lot of things everyone does to their cars (rims, bodykit, clear corners, etc) but its all part of creativity. I've seen this done in a Lincoln navigator a long time ago and always wanted to do it. When Maxima Polak did it, I wanted to get it done as well.

And TJ Max is right. 52 bucks shipped for a pretty cool mod.

Thanks TJ Max for the back. Ebay has the 52 degree camera for 52 shipped. ManualMaxima is doing a group deal on these for 60 shipped.

Springs are a performance mod, they provide for better handling. Having good handling on a car can make up for a lot of raw engine power.

wiring was hidden under the carpet very nice and strategically. There is a night vision version as well.

That is the ebay link for 53 degree angle camera. Manualmaxima is doing a GD for the 105 degree on for 10 bucks more.

Box comes with camera w/power and video cable. You must take out the trunk lock, pull out the lock, and dremel/drill is just so it would fit snug. the power is wired up to a 12v of your choice and the video is run up to your tv.

For those who aren't great at installing, Don did a great job doing my install. give him a call if needed

sure but driving this in new york would give u lots of damage underneath the car... well at least where i drive... i hit my bottom many times without lowered springs... and i wouldnt be able to park the car in my driveway (its sloped)

I'm in Staten Island too and lowered the car about 1.5 inches with 45 tires, sure the ride is rough and firm, but no damage underneath the car. I could see how you could have a problem with the driveway if it's steep enough. I have lip also in front and doing just fine.

How long did the camera install take?

off topic, but how do you "shave the trunk"?

people say they shave it, but you just take the emblems off... multiple write ups for that... goo gone, elbow grease... time... you get the point...

but others actually have the keyhole removed for a complete shave job... i guess they take out the keyhole, weld in metal, grind it down, body filler, sand, prime and paint... too much for me!

that keyhole cam is sleek... although, the only use i see for it is that you could tell how close you are to something backing up, but you'd have to practice in car backing up on a friend or something to get your judgement down...

not bad for $60.00 was it?
