cost of a 2k + tranny conversion

With the differential bearing issue possibly affecting me in the future, im contemplating switching to a 5th+ gen 5-speed tranny. How much does the tranny itself typically cost? are they any online salvage sites, or transmission sites I can look over to see what kind of price id be looking at? Please provide links if possible, thanks.

non-lsd 5.0 gen trannies normally run 600-700 i think... no idea on installation though.

Installation is free. If your doing the swap anyway you might as well go up to the AE VLSD tranny.

as of right now im just gathering information in anticipation of a failed tranny (i'm assuming the differential bearing will fail). Id be going from 5-speed manual to 5-speed VLSD (i hear its better) manual, so im assuming the process would be alot easier. I know a local mechanic who could probably do the job, if it's as simple as swapping the trans, if not, I'll go to a professional. I'll keep searching the boards for info though.

ok, I went back pretty far in searching, and didn't find an answer. When you switch to a 5th gen AE 5-speed VLSD (or whatever) , is it a direct swap, or do you have to pair the 5th gen axles with the tranny? What's all needed?
