Hey guys, whats going on. My name is Lee, I'm new to the infiniti scene, i own a 1990 bmw 535i, but my mom has a 97 I30. Recently the I30 has been having some problems. First off, recently when i was on the highway the top molding piece for the sunroof broke off and the rubber molding is now falling off. The sunroof is also a little rusted i plan on cleaning that up this weekend but i'm wondering if this is a common problem and if there are any tricks to fixing it and where is the best place to buy new moldings? Secondly it's auto obviously and when it is cold out and the car is cold u'r not able to change gears because the car just stalls out immediately. You have to let it warm up to half on the temp guage. If you get it to move when it's cold the car doesn't want to change gears, can't decide what gear it's in or doesn't down shift and stalls the car. We have had the tranny checked by many different people including the dealer and a reputable tranny shop in the area and neither can figure out the problem. Any clues on what it could be. as crazy as this may sound,,,i was haveing tranny problems on my 97 i30t auto,,it kept jumping into 'autodrive off' mode,, and shifting irratically.....anyway..i changed the tranny fluid.. smoother , but still had the problems...took to nissan dealer,,he said to change the themostat...i was like "whatever"... so i refused the service,, but changed it myself,,,"HE WAS RIGHT"..explained that the od off came on because the engine temp was not in range, he had two others with the same problem...HOWEVER, the common trend was the overdrive off problem...try it anyway, a new thermostat could do you some good on a 97, easy too.

 

yea try a tranny flush.. then new fluid... and ur tranny should be okay. cuase if it works once its warm... ...
my 98 is okay wiht auto.. i start her up.. wait till i put lotion on my hand.. (yes i have lotion in the glove compartment) and then start driving.. very gentle until i get to the highway.. then its warm by then.. then i gunn that bad boy.. then i hit traffic after 1 min.. and im oging 10mph.. if im lucky..

Tranny fluid would have nothing to do with it.

 

As for the stalling in the cold problem - have you cleaned your throttle body? I had diffuculty starting my car one winter a few years ago. I cleaned the TB and it's started on the first try ever since. It might help. Also it couldn't hurt to try fuel injector cleaner, and check your spark plugs to see if they're worn or discolored.
