Keyless Pad

Hi, I got a keyless entry pad which I do not now the code for nor the remote. Called up my local Nissan dealer and asked where to find the reset code for my 88 and they said behind the radio or the kick panel. Well I didn't see anything behind the radio or kick panel. Could the code possibly be the same for another vehicle or would I have to replace the thing that stores the code?

On a side note please excuse my lack of knowledge of parts of the car.

In the trunk of the car there is a box(sometimes two) the small one on the right has the reset code for the Keyless pad. The sticker on that box will have a 7-9 digit code(I can't remember that small detail). Enter it into the keypad and the pad will beep for 7 seconds will it does that you must enter your own personal 4 digit code.
