Thinking of buying a 1998 GXE...Salvage title

I'm thinking of buying a 1998 GXE Salvage. The salvage was from a theft recovery, apparently no mechanical damage. Carfax tells me it was owned by a company as a corporate car then bought by a private seller as a salvage and then bought again by the guy who I'm talking to.

I'm going to have a mechanic take a close look at everything but wanted to know what you all thought. The seller is asking $4700 but I think I might be able to talk him down to $4k or under. And yes, I plan on driving this car until it dies.

How many miles are on the car? For that price, I am pretty sure you could find a 97+ with 100K miles if you look around.

The miles are a bit high at 110k but that really only averages out to just under 20k miles a year which isn't out of the question. I'm more interested in the current condition of the car. If it was taken care of then I'm not really worried about the 110k miles on it.

As far as your 1997 recommendation, thanks, but I'm looking for a 1998 or better.

My car was a salvage. Stolen also, if you look at my doors you can still see how they stole. It was rebuilt with leather interior and heated seats, bose, and front and rear 97+ conversion... and other goodies. Either way I got a deal on it, with only 27,000 miles

I said 97+, but if I were you and found a 97 with a clean title, I'd reather have that instead of a 98+ with a salvage.

Here's the thing, getting the hell beaten out of a car isn't unique to just salvages or corporate cars. I know there is a unique element of risk here but the asking price reflects this and, believe me, I'm going to have it checked out and make sure I don't drop a tranny and blow an engine the second I sign on the dotted line. I think its at least worth looking into.

Thanks for the input so far fellas.
