I just ordered a set of Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires for my 98 Maxima SE 5-spd. I got 225/55/16 for my stock SE rims (16x6.5). They seem to have good feedback and survey rating at tirerack.com.

Did anyone actually try these tires on their Maxima (or on other cars)? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

I have them stock size 215/55/16. In fact I just put them in, like 2 weeks ago. They're very good. You know that 225/55/16 will have a taller profile then 215/55 don't you?
I had taller tires on my max once and the ride just sucked big time, SE's stiff suspension and softer (taller) tires are a bad combination.

i love them

i have kumho ecsta supras 712s in 235-45-17 and i love them. they have a great combination of treadwear and grippiness. and they are quiet. i had Toyo FZ4s on my civic, and compared to those, these tires are silent. i am very happy with my kumhos.

I have them, and I was shocked by how good they were (are) for the price. They look tight also. I was riding on those shi$ty Toyo tires and can tell a HELL of a handling difference. Also, the ride is smoother at 120 than it is at 60.

Thanks for the warning BUT...

The sidewall height difference between 215 and 225 is insignificant (.22") and overall tire diameter is < half an inch difference (.43"). In addition, with wider tire (10mm difference - .37") larger tire surface will contact the ground, thus resulting in better handling, braking, etc.

Also, additional reason I decided to get 225 vs. 215 is because 215s are available in ZR speed rating only with 280 treadwear indicator, while 225s are also available in VR speed rating with 340 treadwear indicator. 225s should last a little longer.

Just got the 712s also in 235-45-17. They seem pretty grippy. Just hope they last longer than my last set, Pirelli P7000 Supersport. Not even 14K before they were gone!

True. Do you know how many miles 280 will last ? Moderate driving.

I just ordered a set of 235-40-18's. I heard from different sources that these tires have great traction at the track.

Dunno at the track but I was looking for large puddles after the rains... They hardly phased these tires... and I got some pretty wide ones too...

they are

CHEAP as hell but great performers, find me a 18in tire for $128 like the kuhmo with just as good performance and then i will think about switching, i think they don't last longer than 6-7 months though.

I've had mine since August of 2000, and I'd say I still easily have another 8 or so months until they wear out.

I got the 235/45/17's and I like them a lot. They are worth the price, maybe even better. I get a lot of traction and they are quiet. Now, can anyone tell me what psi rating I should have them at when I go to the track tomorrow?

Pressures

At the track run the rears at full pressure, and try the fronts at various pressures, try like 23, 21, 19, 17... see what works best for you. i went to the track with my 17's on my civic once, and found that 18-20 psi worked the best for me.

Just got some this morning

I actually just got some this morning from discount tire. I walked in there just looking for some stock replacements and walked out with some 17" enkei's wrapped in the kumho's. So far they are awesome and a lot better than the "baby's butts" that I was driving on before. I also like the 235/45/zr17 because they give the rear end a little flavor because they are wider than stock of course.
