Blown tranny, what are my options?

My tranny recently blew and I want to know the options I have. I thought about putting a manual tranny but since my mom also drives the car (cuz she helped me pay it) so that option is not possible. It is worth putting in a tranny (new or old?) since I have a 95 with maybe 120K on it. Can I put a tranny from another car that would be more performant or I can only put in a maxima tranny? Any inputs is appreciated.

Your car is 10 years old. Dont mess up with a different tranny than a Maxima tranny, else you're looking for future expensive problems that wont be worth the value of the car. I would try to get a used one first, then rebuilt the actual one if you cant find a used one. 10 years old max is worth fixing the tranny IMHO, but not modify it.

Think about the question your asking. There are upgraded auto trannies available for the Maxima.

you can go with a auto tranny used. but check the mileage on the donating car if possible. or get it warrantied from where ever you get it. u can upgrade your stock tranny. tranny cooler, and i belive theres some sort of other mods. and you can do the resistor mod which will cause your tranny to shift at higher rpms. and theres some guys on here that have a kit made to make your auto tranny shift like mauanl withotu clutch. like a trip-tronic. using your cruise control buttons as the shifting buttons. hope this helps, i wish i can be more acurrate with links etc. autos jump on this.

Please don't talk about a subject you don't know about. The drop resistor DOES NOT make you shift at higher RPM's.

Yes, it's called an automatic transmission and is an option from the dealer.

How lazy are we?^^

Buy a used tranny from a junkyard online or locally, try www.car-parts.com as an online source. price should range anywhere from 300-1500, + whatever installation costs if you do not plan on installing yourself excpect to pay another 400-600.

If you're more performance oriented, talk to TET (Top Element Tuning) or level 10 among other companies for upgrades. These upgrades range anywhere from high stall TC's, makes your auo launch/engage at a higher RPM, to VB mods which tighten up/quicken shifts to full bulletproof trannies meaning you can put them through a lot of stress without blowing them etc etc. Keep in mind, these are quite pricey, at around 1500+ jsut for the tranny, not the labor for installaion.
