Grinding/rubbing noise...help

Ever since I got my car back from the shop, it's been making a wierd noise when moving the car for the first time after its been sitting for a while. After about 3-4 hours of sitting in the same place, as soon as I start moving the car, there's a grinding/groaning noise coming from somewhere bottom rear of the car. It doesn't do it when the car is warm or it's been driving for a while, only when I start moving it after sitting. The shop suggested it might be my bearings. Any experience with this, any thoughts? Thanks.

Do you use the e-brake? If so maybe it could be that the rear calipers are siezing up, but the pad wears down enough once you drive to no longer make noise.

Yeah my car is a 5-speed, so I use the parking brake. My pads are almost new, about 1-month old. It sounds like metal on metal rubbing....that sounds like a possibility. Any suggestions?

What was it in the shop for?

My Maximas will make that noise due to an accumulation of rust on the rotor, this is polished off within about 5 normal stops. This is a normal event with me. I suspect some combinations of organic pads and cast iron vs. steel rotors would be more susceptable than others. I wouldn't worry about it if I saw rusty rotors and the noise went away after the rotors were polished clean.

from what happened to my max, its probably the rotors. I had that similar problem with my car with the metal to metal sound, and it was the rotor that was bad

This happens to me everytime I leave my 96 Auto sit for hours or overnite also. I park on a incline an have to use my emergency brake. I always notice thhis slight grinding sound from the rear when backing out of my driveway. I thought it was the wheel bearings but now I am really wondering...
