Even though I drive a 3rd Gen.....

I use Mobil 89 and sometimes switch to Mobil 93. In fact, I had a poll in Off Topic about Gas Prices and we all thought they were Ludicrous.

You can try it, but not too sure of the results... Yes, the prices really suck, but only the best for my baby, whatever the cost. I didn't buy it for the mileage or the grade of gas it uses... Good luck and pray for increased oil production or the drilling of Alaska

It's b/c of summer time, more people drive, so demand goes up, and thusly cost increases...

I use Sunoco 94 (around 1.70-1.80 here around philly), I don't know if it is that much better than 93, but it makes me feel good...

Gas prices out here on the West-Coast are terrible! I'm looking at prices of $1.87 to $2.07 per gallon just for regular 87 octane gas for my Civic!!

When I first got my Maxima last November, I started using 89 octane which seemed fine. But I've since switched to 92 from Chevron since I've gotten more **** about things. LOL. Expensive, though. They say that by summer, we could be paying as much as $3.00 per gallon for 92 and $2.50 per gallon for 87. Good lord!

Why can't I just put on a cape and fly around like Superman?!? He never has to worry about the price of gas! Sheesh!

We can always use more crime fighters, let me know. You can just imagine how much I pay for petro since I did that engine swap(nissan 3.0 ltr V6 for NASA rocket engine). I pay almost $75 a gallon for rocket fuel and about 1.65 a gallon for my 2.3CL.

quit whining

you pay more per gallon for supermarket brand soda. they need to raise gas prices to $5.00 a gallon to clear some of the cars (esp. suv's and old beaters) off the roads. it's a buck-a-liter in europe, we're paying les than half that. besides, when i pumped gas on high school 13 years ago it cost over $1.50 a gallon at times. figure that aginst the inflation index.

stop complaining!!!

Just don't drink anything except water. If you think about it, gas is some of the cheapest liquid. It comes from the middle east, you have to drill it, refine it, and ship it here. Just think about how much coke makes then, it's water plus sugar and some other junk and it's made here.

it cost about 50cents per can..that is like $4+ a gallon.

Re: stop complaining!!!

Heh... Europeans would kill to be able to pay $1.90/gallon..

As for using lower grade in your max... DON'T... read the FAQ, and do some searches, cuz this has been discussed a LOT here...

The general consensus is that your car CAN run on 89 gas TEMPORARILY, because it comes equipped with a knock sensor, which retards engine timing when a knock is detected...

Caveat:: the knock has to be detected first... meaning, it has to happen!!! So constantly filling up your max with 89, and letting it ping is NO solution... you paid $20-30k for your car, 10 cents per gallon isn't gonna put you in the poor house...

-Tom

PS.. Just to clear some common misconceptions
Higher octane gas DOES NOT provide better perfomance
Higher octane gas DOES NOT provide better mileage

(by higher octane, I mean more than manufacturer recommends.. for our max, that's 91... anything more than 91 is wasted money... I use 93 cuz i'm too lazy to mix equal amounts of 89 and 93 to save a few pennies... In fact, I only paid $1.47/gallon for my last fillup in NJ!!!)

You should have no porblem shifiting from 93 to 89. After your first transfer, make sure you reset the ECU.

Is this really necessary?

What is the best way to do it?

Think of it this way...wateva the gas cost, you paid anywhere from 22-32 grand for your car and now u want to save a few cent on gas? and this few cents will break ur expensive car faster. ask you self if it's worth it.........

If you go below 91 octane your gas mileage will suffer (among other things). If you look at the difference in mileage vs the difference in price between the grades you'll see you save little, if any, by torturing your car.
