I was driving home today from work when i decided to turn off my radio because one of my rear speakers may be blown and I heard this noise coming from the engine bay. It sounds like a "whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" that increases and decreases with acceleration. I took a quick look and couldn't really figure it out. Tomorrow at work I'll take a better look at it. Could it be the timing chain or the water pump or something else I haven't thought of?? My warranty runs out at 99,800 miles or in May 05, whichever comes first. I currently have 93,000 miles. Any help would be appreciated.

 

You know what...I have a similar sound sometimes when the car is cold, when its in neutral its fine, but when its in gear, it makes that noise till the car warms up. not sure what it is, but from the outside its pretty loud.

 

sounds like your alternator is on its way gone

 

a/c compressor?
