I was on my way home from washing my car and I pull up to a light. I was just sitting there when I noticed a new tl type-s sitting next to me. I start revving my engine then he does the same. I thought I was going to lose BUT when the light turned green I got a near perfect start. I dumped the clutch at 2500 rpms. We were dead even through 1st gear but when I shifted to 2nd I started to pull on him by the time I hit 3rd I was more than 1 car length ahead of him. One more kill for Nissan.
With all that power how are those cars not faster? OH its a Honda. We all know what Honda stands for (Hold On Not Done Accelerating).

Did you notice if the TL-S guy brake torqued or not? That would make a difference against the 5-speed. I can't remember but I think I've seen the tl-s at somewhere between 6.7-7.0. The CL-S is supposed to be mid 6s I think.

Nice kill though! That's a real good match-up.

Yes, I dumped the clutch. It was on blacktop and I knew I would not spin that much. I dont know if he brake torqued or not.

yeah the tl-s and the cl-s has 260 hp, but it also has a slushbox. The J-series engines(accord,tl,cl engines) from honda generally lose about 25% of it's hp though the tranny. If Honda made a 5 or 6spd cl-s or tl-s, it would have MURDERED you, but Honda didn't. DAMN YOU HONDA!!! And don't forget the Tl-s just came out, so that guy probably just broke in his car.

And personally, i don't see why Nissan made a 5spd for the VQ30de engine. only 3% of maxima's made are 5spd, so why spend all that money on r&d?

Ouch... We tend to love our 5 speeds around. I really wanted the 5 speed, and if I didn't have that as an option, I would have had to go the BMW route (I will eventually anyway). Since I didn't have the resources yet, I went Maxima and have no regrets!!!! If you get a chance, test drive a 5 sp, they're better than an auto (at least to me)...

Now, that is a man w/ sense. A Bimmer. That is my next move when my max is paid for in April. 6sp 540iL Black on Black w/ the AC Schnitzer tuning kit. I am practically forced to buy a Bimmer now. I already bought the 19x9.5 AC Schnitzer type III wheels, crazy huh?

TL-S is still faster. Checked the Motor Trend magazine...
0-60 6.3 sec!

TL-S just came out, so the guy you raced must have just bought the car and still in the break-in period.

If it was a 2002 model, he would win against you. I test drove one and it pulls. But you have to push the car hard. Not to mention, they made that car more sporting from the get go. Heck, Acura had them fitted with a 4 point front stablizer bar. And I believe even with our aftermarket, it only bolts to two places. Theres will do it at 4.

I agree with all of the above, except I'm glad Nissan made I five speed (cuz I bought one!).

I forget what magazine I saw this in, but published 0-60 times on the CL-S was 6.3sec and the TL-S was 6.4sec. I would have thought twice about buying the Max had the TL been available with a manual tranny.

As for the comments by rocketshipon19" and djmaxski, I'm with u guys all the way (especially u rocket)!!! I hoping I can save enough for a 540i 6spd for my next car.
