Sweet New Altima means even Sweeter Maxima!

- Guys, you have to go check out the New Altima at NissanDriven.com. The car is going to be incredible!
- First, they are sharing the front multi-link independent suspension with the New Z Car. You can have a 180hp 2.5 four-banger from the upcoming SE-R or a 240hp 3.5 V-6! The headlights are reminiscent of the new Q45 and the taillights unfortunately are Altezza style. However, you can get Xenon lighting up front! There will be a choice of three interior "atmospheres" a' la Audi and the gauge cluster is supposedly inspired by high-performance motorcycles.
- Basically, what all this is boiling down to is that the Altima is replacing the Maxima as we know it. I can only assume that the new Maxima will have the 240hp (maybe 250 for the Max) 3.5L engine as its base engine and a higher performance engine (perhaps from the Z Car?) for the SE model. Most likely, the car will be RWD and will be slightly larger. Think of the new Maxima as a Nissan-style Q45. Although, that makes me wonder if they'll offer a stick.
- The RWD will be good, but I doubt that the weight or size will drop. Forget the charming Four Door Sports Car monniker - Nissan's going luxo BMW 5/7-Series competitor here.
- I think that this is an awesome move for Nissan. They are cranking out some incredible cars full of high-performance, high-tech, high-quality goodies. I think that Nissan will start giving Acura a run for its money and that Infiniti will begin emerging as a more direct competitor to Mercedes-Benz.
- I'm interested to see what you all think. Frankly, I'm saving my pennies for the Z Car. If I want performance, I'll ditch the other two doors. The Maxima is a great roomy cruiser and has a brilliant engine, but I want a lighter, faster, and more responsive car. What do you all think?

Yes, I agree with you, but what concerns me is that the new Altima appears as if it's going to overshadow the Maxima. I mean, the new Altima has everything the Maxima owner is yearning for. (HID's!!!!!!!!) So I guess they are really really going to update the Maxima, make mine black.
