I am thinking about aftermarket rims on my Maxima, although I am very happy with the standard SE wheels.

I have thought about it and decided that 17" would be the ideal size because it will be the cheapest (versus 18"+) and tires will be cheaper too.

I really like the look of the Konig Villains.

The size I am interested in is 17"x8", which weighs about 20 lbs. Is that heavy for a 17"x8" wheel without a tire?

I've only checked two sites for prices so far. Konigwheels.com says the suggested retail price is about $250/wheel. I went to Discounttire.com as well, and they sell them for $175/wheel. Is this a fair price for these wheels?

That brings us to tires...
I was hoping to get the wheels and tires all together mounted and balanced for about $1200 or less if possible. So, if I were to purchase the rims for $175, the total for the four rims is $700. That leaves me about $500 for tires and mounting and balancing and blah blah blah. What is a good tire for this price range? What would be the ideal size for a 17"x8" wheel??

Thanks so much for any help! It is much appreciated!

1.)Twenty pounds is about average for 17s.
2.)With a 17X8 rim, I say that 235/45-17s will fit well.
3.)Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712s are like $100 a tire, w/ mounting and shipping that should bring you under $500.
Good luck and happy driving.

If you buy new rims, would you be willing to sell your SE wheels?

P7000

Pirelli P7000's will only blow your budget a little... you can get P7000 SuperSports if you need all season ability.

Very nice tires, IMHO, of course,
Bob

medicsonic - Thanks alot! I was actually going to get the Kumho's, but I'd thought I'd post here to see if there was anything better for the money.

Shingles - Is Discount Tires Direct the same as Discounttire.com?

maxium nrg - Does America's tire company have a website? If so, can you post the URL?

Matrix - Sorry, but the SE wheels will not be for sale because I need them for the winter here.

BobMax - I will look into those tires. Thanks for your input.

Nice respnse Nick. BTW, I have the Pirelli P7000SS ($150) and am EXTREMELY happy with both their wet and dry performance. They haven't made a squeal yet, though I have flown around some corners at outrageous speeds with them. About the only thing wrong with them is that some people say they start to get a little noisy after about 20,000 miles.
