Hood pins for cf hood?

I am about to get a carbon fiber hood for my '96 and Ive seen alot of Maximas without hood pins, some manufacturers say you MUST use them. Is it ok to use old hardware? How much weight is really saved by going fiber? My car is a white pearl and my wife wants the hood painted to match... any thoughts?

If you travel at high speeds get hood pins. You do not want that flying up on the highway.

The CF hood probably saves about 25-30 lbs.

Yeah it's highly recommended that you get hood pins for your hood. I recieved my hood and didn't have hood pins on for about a week b/c i hated the look of hood pins. At high speeds the hood moved alot and it scared me. I didn't want that thing coming up and hitting the windshield. So i bought some hood pins at ADVANCE AUTOPARTS for about $15. Every easy to install just take your time.

stock hood is 49lbs, CF Hood is about 19lbs.

I'm probably going to get a CF hood too, current one is based up and figure a new OEM hood + repaint would equal a CF hood.

WHere are you getting a CF hood from?

well Im not sure weather to go with VIS Racing $525 shipped or go econo with an Ebay hood for about $300. Im probably going to paint it anyway because Im giong to do a 99 front end conversion at the same time with new grill cefiro lights and new front fenders. So the $125 differance adds up in the process. Anyone had any bad Ebay hoods?

if you are going cefiro lights, why dont you just do a i30 conversion... the cefiro lights would sit perfect with it...

redlinemax hood shaved off 17 lbs (not much at all) , it was also a below average product (making my car look cheap as hail).

here is why you should get hood pins. in my situation, my hood latch just crumbled ? with no way to get the hood to catch, your hood will fly up if you take off down the road, lol ! so hood pins in my situation really was a life saver. again beware of cheap products. when you do buy your cf hood, make sure to ask questions like return policy, whats the hood latch made of ? how much does it weigh ? ask ahead of time because if you have problems, a cf hood is a rough item to ship back and forth due to its size.

Without hoodpins, the hood just moves too much at high speed. I would recommend you get hood pins that are made of aluminum instead of chromed steel. The chrome ones seems to rust over time after the chrome chipped off. I got the Morso ones from Summit Racing. I think it was like $15.

I would use hood pins. True, it looks better without them. But its safer with them. If the hood were to come up, the hood will be ruined and chances are the windsheild too. Its just cheaper and easier to put the pins in.
