Bose Head Unit died - what are my options?
Bose Head Unit died - what are my options?
Thing finally died. I notice that places like Crutchfield are wanting to sell you and adapter that adjusts the gain from your new head unit to match with the existing Bose speaker units. How does this solution work? I'd rather just replace the head unit if possible.
If your Clarion HU is dead and you would like to keep it, there is a company that fixes Clarion radio's for a fee. I don't remember the company or how to contact them, but Ebay might help you if you type in Nissan Maxima Bose Radio in the search field as the person sells the Clarion HU for the Bose Radio.
Otherwise yes, an aftermarket HU will work just find. If you don't want to cut up your OEM wires, by the wiring harness adapter kit.

um he said bose, not clarion.
and if you want to buy my bose head unit, it works fine as far as i know, only thing i had to drill out the screws that held it inplace to the brackets. $7 bucks plus shipping. merry christmas. or whatever you celebrate.
let me know, ill take pics too if you want. its just collecting dust in my living room, its full of boxes and old maxima parts.

Otherwise, spend a bunch of money and put in a completely new system -- new HU, front and rear speakers and probably wiring while you are at it. That's what most of us that dumped the Bose have done.

he pm-d me and said he needed a cd-player. i mean those things are worthless. first off the discs are expensive, if you can find them anywhere, im sticking with my tapes, they will never be taken over by compact discs as the way to listen to music. i dont know 3 people that have cd-players, he must be rich.

Bose head units are worthless.
What I did is install a new $110 Kenwood CD player without the adapter to use the stock amps. Then I bypassed the amps to run the speakers off the HU. The HU keps shutting off because the bose speakers are lower impedance than normal, so I ran both left speakers in series off the LR channel and did the same for the right. Sounds great.

ah atleast someone got my dry humor.
just an audio related question, I got new HU and new rear speakers, the only thing stock in my sound system is the front speakers and the speaker wiring. Now I have been wanting to swap out the stock speakers and was wondering if I will be fine with the stock wiring or do I need to run new speaker wires? I'm not looking for super beefy sound or anything like that, just some nice bass for my sometimes long commute. Thanks
