Bose Head Unit died - what are my options?

Thing finally died. I notice that places like Crutchfield are wanting to sell you and adapter that adjusts the gain from your new head unit to match with the existing Bose speaker units. How does this solution work? I'd rather just replace the head unit if possible.

If your Clarion HU is dead and you would like to keep it, there is a company that fixes Clarion radio's for a fee. I don't remember the company or how to contact them, but Ebay might help you if you type in Nissan Maxima Bose Radio in the search field as the person sells the Clarion HU for the Bose Radio.

Otherwise yes, an aftermarket HU will work just find. If you don't want to cut up your OEM wires, by the wiring harness adapter kit.

and if you want to buy my bose head unit, it works fine as far as i know, only thing i had to drill out the screws that held it inplace to the brackets. $7 bucks plus shipping. merry christmas. or whatever you celebrate.

let me know, ill take pics too if you want. its just collecting dust in my living room, its full of boxes and old maxima parts.

That's a good deal. Scoop that up and enjoy your holiday freebie on tripleGmax.

Otherwise, spend a bunch of money and put in a completely new system -- new HU, front and rear speakers and probably wiring while you are at it. That's what most of us that dumped the Bose have done.

It's just that I think its time for me to move on from my 8-track player (yep, I know, 8 tracks are where it's at) and I'm gonna skip right over that crappy Cusset tape teknologee. I'm goin' for the new fangled CeeDee player. Every trailer in my park seems to be gettin' em.

8 tracks are better than what we commonly refer to as "cassette tapes"

Bose head units are worthless.

What I did is install a new $110 Kenwood CD player without the adapter to use the stock amps. Then I bypassed the amps to run the speakers off the HU. The HU keps shutting off because the bose speakers are lower impedance than normal, so I ran both left speakers in series off the LR channel and did the same for the right. Sounds great.

just an audio related question, I got new HU and new rear speakers, the only thing stock in my sound system is the front speakers and the speaker wiring. Now I have been wanting to swap out the stock speakers and was wondering if I will be fine with the stock wiring or do I need to run new speaker wires? I'm not looking for super beefy sound or anything like that, just some nice bass for my sometimes long commute. Thanks

first off, you dont need to run new speaker wire. Even though people will tell you that its a good idea, its not that big of a deal. but, if youve got a bose system originally, then you will need to bypass the amps. there is an amp for each speaker in a bose system. its right next to the front speakers, cant miss them. just find the speaker wire and cut and run it into the speaker. and for bass, youre gonna want a sub, and thats a whole new thing that can be answered in the sound forum. but for that you will have to run new wire to the trunk and under the hood. best thing to do, like i did, was go to the sound forum and read the stickies. they are great in letting you know everything before you post a simple question and get flamed for it.

i would go here and you will find a lot of what you will need
