1995 with 190k

We have a 1995 maxima that we have had since it was a year old. This car has been great and we have had to do very little from a maintenance standpoint. It is approaching 190k miles and still runs great and does not smoke at all. I am getting ready to have the belts replaced (still original) and I am wondering if I should go ahead and have them replace the water pump at the same time as a preventative maintenance measure? I also have a knock coming from the engine when it is cold and it goes away as soon as it warms up.(any ideas?) I want to keep the car for my daughter who will be driving in a year but I am wondering how many miles you can typically get out of one of these engines. I have kept the oil changed every 3 to 5k for the life of the car. It has been my experience in the past that once you start doing maintenance on a car with this many miles it seems to cause additional maintenance problems. Is there anything else I should have replaced now from a preventative maintenance standpoint? I am a believer of the "dont fix it if it aint broken" saying which has served me well with this car. Thanks in advance.

Knock Sensor
Belts
Fuel filter
Spark Plugs

The knock is probably caused by the timing chain tensioner

If you don't have any codes, don't mess with it. Nissan engines will last a long long time with regular oil changes. There are plenty of people on here over 200k miles, and even a few with over 300,000 miles. I myself have 200k miles on mine. We have few informative stickied threads at the top of the 4th gen forum, read them. ALL of them. There is tons and tons of information in there that you will find useful. From maintenence to mods, everything you will ever need. The knock coming from the engine may have to do with a number of things. It might not be knock at all. Clean out your throttle body with a can of seafoam, and check the ECU for codes. A new knock sensor might be in order, fuel filter, spark plugs, etc. There is plenty of information in the FAQ and Modification stickies. Read and Learn and welcome to the org.
