Viper Locking/Trunk problem

Hey everyone... I am having a problem with my Viper security system. Whenever I press the lock button on the remote, the security system engages (it makes the "BEEP" sound), but the doors don't lock. If I lock the doors manually, though, the unlock button on the remote works. What could be causing the unlock feature to work, but not the lock function? I got it installed at Circuit City... should I take it back to them and ask them to fix it?

My 2nd problem is that the Trunk release button doesn't work. When I press the button on the remote, the trunk makes a different clicking sound (different than usual), but does not open. This same thing happens if I push the trunk release button on the driver's door (the trunk clicks, but it does not open). If I use the key on the trunk though, it works. This happened last week, and I put some WD-40 on the locking mechanism on the trunk and it made it work for about a day.

It is pretty cold here now... could this be the cause of any of my problems? Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

Shawn

For the locks, I do believe that it's because of the cold. For the trunk, you have to hit the button a couple of times because the latch isn't working too well.

The lock does seem to intermittently work... so you are probably right about it being the cold weather. The power locks with the real switch work fine though. But the trunk latch, I have tried pressing it repeatedly, with no success. I would think that this is also because of the cold, but it's not like it's THAT cold... like 15 degrees here (and it's been through other winters). Any ways to fix?

You could always get a new latch from a junkyard and see if that really is the problem.

sounds like the valet switch on the trunk is flipped, open the trunk with the key and look in the opening where the trunk latches, there should be a switch there, toggle it and youre done... as far as the lock/unlock.. i have no idea.

Huh! Locks malfunction due to cold weather? This is new to me. If this is true, than forget about Viper. I thought Viper is one of the best. Why would it behave like that in cold weather? The temperature could be 45 degree and it went down to 10 degree. Next thing you know, all the door unlock.

No, when it's really cold out all the locking components get stiff. It was so stiff the other night that I couldn't lock the door with my own hand when I got in my car, but then it warmed up and I locked the door with no problem.

It has nothing to do with the alarm.

it was really cold today, which froze my doors closed (took a bit to open them) and my windows would not roll down.
