One of the applications of this basic Truth is insulation:

In winter, your cabin heating pipes stand bare in subzero wind. If u calculate this tube area and heat energy escaping via it to atmosphere, while DRIVING, u find out that quite a lot energy has vanished before it hits your heater. (Just a guess is that the bare tube in the cold wind represents 1/4 of the heater core area.)

In the summertime -which is coming, thank God- its the opposite: Under idling STANDING car hood temps rise very high. In Maxima u have four? feet of cold piping coming to the cabin under these water boiling conditions. Your A/C system is trying -feverishly- to make winter...
