Parking Brake Light & Battery Light lit up on the dash

My wife just came back from the mall last night and these 2 lights are now lit up on the dash. She tried to turn the car off and then restarted the car but the lights were still on. She then drove the car back home.
I woke up this morning and the car started properly, the car was running for about 5 minutes and when I went to put it drive, the car just died. Boosted the car and now the ABS light is also lit up!!!

I think I've read somewhere that the car is in "Security" mode.

This is when some tries to steal the car and the Alarm goes off for a very long time which then drains the battery. This is propbably what happened at the mall.

Is there any way to reset this?

May be the alternator is going out....just double check it...if you jump start it and give a good run for that moment...test it. Take off one battery cable see if the alternator good or not. Good luck....hope not the alternators...its pain to replace by your self or the shop. Too much at the shop and too much time and small space to squeeze your hand through.

Also check your alternator belt.

Sounds like your alternator is going. You have a '97 & there is a recall for '97 & '98 Max's made b/w 2/97 to 2/98 involving the alternator. Check your belt as well

It was the Alternator

Unlucky for me when the that the recall does not cover my alternator.
Something about a Silver Band on mine, whereas the defective ones have a Green Band.

I'd be really concerned about disconnecting the battery from a running vehicle, especially if you suspect the alternator may not be right. The risk is that the alternator could put out too high a voltage and fry some of the vehicle electronics.
