People in Ca and FL keep them on all the time Do you really understand what winter tires do?

 

ive never had winter tires, I got cooper lifeliners on my stockers, which is what ive used for the winter and theyve been fine

 

This is the first winter I'll be leaving em on! Buffalo winters suck!

 

my wheels have been off for weeks.

 

I left them on when I had my 17s, but now that I have 19s I take them off.


oh yea...I have 19s now because I messed up the 17s by keeping them on over the winter. Now, they ARE my winter wheels!

 

I have yet to change my wheels. I have to do it real soon. It's supposed to snow sun night and I still have my summer tires on there. Not good

I usually switch over to winter wheels sometime between Nov 15th and Dec 1st, depending on what the forecast is like.

 

I never change my stock wheels

(unless they get bent, then I replace them with the replicas I have in storage, although I should get my 2 old bent wheels repaired so I have them for spares)

If you have aftermarket rims with low profile tires and you live in an area that has a lot of snow, freezing rain, or huge potholes then its your best bet to take them off for the winter.

 

Never tooks my rims off any car I had.The rims never got mess up from the winter.If I had chorme rims,thats a differnt story.

 

This is going to be my second winter with these RAYS rims and so far so good, just keep them clean and if you drive on road salt make sure you wash them relatively soon.

 

Everybody's entilted to their opinion. Rims tend to be expensive and I value the condition of mine. Heck, swapping wheels was the easiest of my winter mods.

Mine will be on this winter. My stock set w/ winter tires were stolen during the summer. Will be stored until the snow passes.

Took them off two weeks ago. Stock rims on now and just today I put my Max in the garage for good until March. I miss driving already!

I took my 18's off back in October. They have Yokohama Parada's and Yokohama Parada Spec II's. Great tires, but not much treading, and I don't feel as comfortable during the Winter months in the Seattle area when it rain's the most. They seem to hydroplane pretty easy on the freeway. So I put my I30 rims on with BFGoodrich Traction T/A's. They feel a little more sure footed in the rain.

I must say, putting my 15's back on makes me appreciate the ride with smaller wheels. Rims on our cars make it ride like ****

 

Rain will kill rims?? If that's the case my rims would be have been dead long ago b/c it rains here 9 months of the year. If you live in an area where salt is used on the roads I suggest you take the rims off for the winter. Just to be safe.

my 4th gen rims i now leave on, the potenza re950 tires on them were alright in the snow last year so they stay on.......but for big snow storms :turns to blazer:

i also heard leaving a coat of wax (apply and leave it on as a haze, dont wipe it off) on your rims will help protect against salt etc

 

I bought a $2 tub of turtle wax that I use to slather on my wheels to keep off the brake dust, road salt, etc.

 

im thinking about doing it to my lower body panels as well - bottom of the doors and bumpers where all the salt kicks up from the tires and cakes on the paint

You can leave rims on, just dont drive in the snow or when salt is spread. I had my 19s on last winter . I just used my beater car when the weather was crappy. Its not the snow thats bad for the rims, its the salt and dirt....

 

Took my wheels off mid october cause I go to school upstate and din't want to risk it. Of course now its mid-december and it still hasn't snowed.

 

3 winters have passed, all with stock 17s. And my rims are in perfect shape. Our winters have been some of the worst too.

No its the cheap chrome rims that suffer in the winter. Especially the ones that arent real chrome and have that cheap poly chrome crap.. I know a fellow orger that had those type of rims and went through the car wash. when he came out the other side, his rims had compeletely peeled off. Salt has a similar effect on the clearcoats of aftermarket rims.

 

I sold my stock 17"s shortly after I bought my 19"s because I needed the money. But I won't be driving my max this winter anyway. That's what my truck is for.

For those that are going back to stock for the winter, I would get snow tires.

Yes, they're fine. Use them.

 

Took my 18's off after thanksgiving break untill the snow melts in late march.
Already got two feet of snow and we are expecting two more later today.

I'd be more worried about sliding off the road on 18s w/ street tires then the rims themselves, thats why I took mine off.
